Ioniq 5 dealer exhaustion - advice?

I know it’s no surprise to folks here who have run the gantlet already, but I’ve never worked this hard to give someone more money than they paid for something. I’m trying to make sure I get a fair price on an SEL RWD, and it’s just games the whole way.

I’m on my second dealer who insists that they’re the ones giving the lease discount and that MSRP is reasonable for an SEL RWD that’s been sitting on a lot for weeks. One agreed to deals and then changed the terms when I showed up to sign and wouldn’t budge, so I walked.

I’ve been asking for $3500 off MSRP before the lease incentives (planning to do the immediate buyout). That really seems in line with what’s out there, but am I nuts?

Sadly, none of the brokers on here have anything for the SEL RWD.

Keep making offers, keep moving on after someone says no.

PS how much inventory of the RWD trim is there near you? Seems like a trim that the OEM would send pretty much exclusively to the warmest states.

There’s some, but not tons. I’m in Maryland. The ones that are here are not moving at all which is part of what’s blowing my mind a bit. At this point, I’m worried I’m going to miss the $7,500 (which is fine because this is a want-not-nee situation, but still.)

I actually reached out to a dealer today in my hometown in Tennessee who has a ton on their lot, so we’ll see.

Why don’t you reach out to a broker here in your area offering $4500 off???

I’ve reached out to a few who post on the boards. but none have anything for an SEL RWD. If there are any out there, I’d love to hear from them.

I believe @AutoCompanion had at least 2 or 3 SEL RWD… as that is what I was looking at myself.

But also don’t be afraid to go AWD…the Hyundai system completely disconnects the FWD if you are not using AWD or in Eco-Mode.

But the AWD sticker is over $50K, so it’s ineligible for the MD EV tax credit.

$7500’s not going anywhere. It’s a federal credit and no way Hyundai can stop the lease pass throughs with inventory building and the 2024s coming.

Relax. The $7500 tax credit is not going anywhere and Hyundai is going to be passing it through because these cars are not moving. Hold strong until you get a good deal.

Why is it that almost every Hyundai dealer in my area always seem to duscount at same amount from MSRP? Is this a standard practice by all of them to be discounting at a fixed number? Whenever I had dealt with Lexus, MB, etc I would get a variety of discounts from each dealer. But, like with a Ioniq 5 Limited RWD f you push for more discount they all stop at $2500 off max. Why is that?

hi @jaymay i am in MD as well and looking to do the similar deal as yours but i am interested in SEL AWD…i am actually thinking/waiting on hyundai providing pricing on their 2024 models and hoping that maybe if they lower the base MSRP then i’d go for it…i am specifically looking for SEL AWD and trying to see if i can get one OTD at 40k with everything done.

Are you dead set on RWD because of the MD tax credit? I think AWD is easier to come by.

Did you consider EV6 Wind RWD? Its base price also falls under $50k. It’s got FAR more features than the Ioniq 5 SEL and it’s not even close. Especially if you add the tech pkg on the EV6.

Several dealers in the area are advertising around 10% off (e.g. King Kia – although their reputation is not stellar).

Might have to do with the limited availability of the RWD variant.

Does your state limit where you can get the car to be eligible for this STATE tax credit? Most other states restrict to buy inside the state to collecte state rebates.

But I remember during 2019 Ioniq craze one person from MD picked up the car out of state and still got in state benefits. But just checking if the law hasn’t changed like it was with NJ
