2 days ago, I went to pick up my new 2024 Equinox EV that I’m leasing.
I want to change my insurance as Geico is 1- Super expensive and 2- doesn’t provide customers with Gap or Replacement coverage.
I contacted All State, Progressive, and a few others but nobody was able to find the vehicle using the VIN and they don’t want to use Carfax.
Geico was able to find the Equinox using Carfax but couldn’t find it with the VIN.
Is that normal? Do I have to wait a few days for their databases to update or is there something wrong?
I have had this happen with new make/model, sometimes new model years. I’d be shocked if those companies had not already written policies for 2024 Equinox EVs, but the feed they use might not be updated yet.
The last time this happened, my insurance (I think GEICO at the time) sent me an email and I replied with a photo of the window sticker that showed the make/model/VIN. They usually have a way to quote without the VIN, but since that is the gold standard for brands that can VIN-decode they seem to prefer that.
I read the contract and Gap coverage is not mentioned anywhere.
I want it for peace of mind. I don’t mind paying a few more bucks just to cover my back.
What’s with the yelling? It’s completely normal. They should be able to just add the VIN and manually insert year make model. Happen with my EQS, wrangler and gle53
Thank you for your help.
I added the insurance section and the total loss of vehicle section. I may have missed the part of the gap coverage or misunderstood the verbiage.
