Insurance Requirements for Ford in California

,

I have always gone with $100,000.00/$300,000.00/$100,000.00 for Liability, and $100,000.00/$300,000.00 Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist. My Comprehensive and Collision deductibles are $100.

I was sent a renewal offer from my insurance company (increased rates with no claims and just under 1,000 miles driven since I took possession of the car on 12/26/18). I was curious about what the minimum amount for liability coverage was, so I sent Ford a message. Their response was to review my contract. I do not know how I missed it, but my agreement states $15,000.00/$30,000.00/$5,000.00 - which, I am presuming, cannot be correct. My BMW and Mercedes minimums were $100,000.00/$300,000.00/$50,000.00. I searched Google and could not find a definitive answer.

Does anyone know the answer? I take the better safe than sorry approach and insure more than I need to. Still, while I can find other manufacturers minimums for California, I cannot locate Ford’s (and their reply was not of much assistance since I know the contract coverage amounts have to be a mistake). Nevertheless, with as little as I drive along with my driving record, I would consider decreasing coverage as an option. There is no sense in paying more. I would never go as low as 15/30/5 even if legally allowed, but 100/300/100 might be overkill, and increasing my Collision to $500 makes more sense.

Why not? Some states have a risk pool option, so any limit excludes those :clown_face:

You sign a contract with Ford/CAB West that you are personally on the hook to return their collateral at the end of the term, in the expected condition. It’s not their problem whether your insurance covers it or you have to take your pennies to Coinstar: they’ll be made whole.

Yeah I have the intergalactic maximums.
