Increase mileage from 10k to 12k miles?

,

Hi,

I leased my new BMW X5 3 days ago with 10,000 Miles/36 mo.
Got to work today, new organizational change will make me drive potentially a bit more.

Is there a way (not a costly one) to move from 10k miles to 12k miles? I signed the papers only 3 days ago - I mention it though I think it makes no difference.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Have you considered asking the dealership? If they already submitted the paperwork to BMWFS and the deal has funded, there’s nothing that can be done.

IF they let you now, it would be a 1% residual hit, but still cheaper than buying miles ala carte. The contract would need rewritten too.

Ha, I had this same thought a day or so ago. I wonder how many miles BMW forgives if you lease another one when your current one expires.

Call your original dealer to see if they can still make an adjustment. If not BMW will actually allow you to adjust the mileage mid lease at a discounted rate.

Big fat goose egg.

It’s not as nice as it used to be. It’s now $0.23/ mile to prepay.

Doesn’t seem all that bad to me. 1% residual on a $50k car is $500. That’s about $25/mo hike on a 2-yr lease, for a total of about $600. Or buy the 4k extra miles for $920. A $320 mistake, but not horrible, and that’s if you really need that much. It is actually cheaper that way if you need, say, 11k per year, rather than structure for 12k up front.

Wow, it used to be like .15 a mile. at .23 I would not even bother.

Good points. I found out that the paperwork was submitted already so I’m going to have to ask BMW I guess.

With RV losses so high on luxury brands, they have all increased mileage penalty fees as a method to generate more revenue. A consistent % of customers go over on miles so they can build it into their risk models and help justify the strong RVs.
