I received the title and lien paper for my financed vehicle. Should I keep it

So I financed a Mazda CX-5 in Maryland and was mailed the tags and registration for the car

However it looks like I also received the original title for the vehicle in the mail which has the lien holder info on one end and the other end seems empty with info like mileage etc not filled out

I previously financed a car in CT and did not receive this paper so wondering if this is common practice in Maryland.

I plan to contact my finance company but wondering if anyone had similar experiences

Thanks

Financed cars can send a ‘open title’. I’ve gotten one on occasion.

In most cases the bank you financed with will keep the title since they’re the lien holder.

Most dealers will send the title directly to the bank (especially if you financed in house) however in some cases they might send it to you either by mistake or if you provided your own financing.

As you mentioned you can call the bank and ask where you should send it, otherwise they will be reaching out once they realize they don’t have it.

In the state of Maryland you usually get the title. I’ve always kept mine with me. There’s still a lien holder on it and it should say the lien holder on the title.

Interesting, I had no idea that varied by state.

Thanks. Yes I do see the lien holder on it but the flip side is empty and has things like mileage title holder value etc so not sure if I’m supposed to fill those in

when you register it, you would fill them in at the DMV.

Otherwise, now you can go ‘Racing for Pinks’… lol
