How to know if 330E is made in North America or Germany?

How do we know if a BMW 330E qualifies for the EV tax credit?

There was a previous post that said the VIN must start with NA for the made in Mexico model. That car is also made in Germany and would not qualify.

A friend is trying to buy one that says made in Mexico but does not have a VIN that starts with NA.

Any ideas how to know for sure. She said the dealer thinks it should qualify, but is not 100% certain.

Window sticker shows where the assembly took place.

That sounds like the sort of thing a dealer that knows it doesn’t qualify would say.

Says final assembly is in Mexico. I’m assuming that qualifies for the EV credit.

Any thoughts?

Country of manufacture is embedded in the first three digits of the VIN. German cars would start with SN-ST or W. North American cars would start with a number (3 for Mexico).

Check the VIN as the previous poster suggested

Yes, clearly shows the car was built in North America and thus eligible for the tax credit.

The current crop of 330/340 in transit show Veracruz port which indicates NA build…

Take that for what you will, my current 330e’s on order and in production do not indicate a factory of origin.

The VIN decoder shows:
Plant Information: SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO

I guess that should be enough. I’ll pass it on.

Is bmw passing on the credit on leases or do you have to purchase it and file for taxes the subsequent year?

One of those on order for IAC is mine - I called BMW Genius yesterday having the same minor panic attack. Confirmed mine was coming out of Mexico (if you have a production number they will tell you). She also confirmed that all 3 series for NA this year are manufactured in Mexico if anyone is thinking of ordering prior to year end.

No pass through.

She is purchasing and filing for the tax credit. The credit was not applicable to leases.

I did not have the time to get into the complicated options that may or may not have allowed for the credit
