How to handle dealer bait and switch with fake below market numbers on website to get leads by showing wrong program?

I saw a NY dealership claiming online in the lease calculator to be the actual numbers including asking for your zip code for taxes etc, and providing a PDF. I knew it was probably fraudulent but was interested to see what they would do. I was tipped off to this dealership by someone who is in Westchester looking for a Hyundai.

The car showed in stock and the option to reserve the vehicle through their website. I chose that and got an automated email to call them to clarify. Ie we have a markup. I tried again with a different vehicle as the original vehicle I selected was a hybrid and same automated email. Finally called someone as they never called me at the agreed-upon time and they told me they wanted me to give a credit app before numbers, I declined and asked for a quote, they pushed for me to come in person then finally I asked for the ADM to which they said 2500. I explained the website shows one number and they said yes then sent me a quote via text. The lease was almost double what they showed on their website so I instantly realized the numbers they showed for their calculator were completely false. Never seen this level of fraud to put in false lower numbers below this month’s national program. The vehicle also isn’t available the representative said though it is advertised at MSRP with no markup on Cargurus still a day later and on their website.

How do you guys deal with this fraud? I was so disgusted seeing this. Who do you suggest contacting to actually have them fined as this is not just adding an ADM, but completely false lower numbers advertised?

Try another contact at that dealership or shop somewhere else.

Until you sign that scammy document, its only a potential bait and switch. Just ignore and move on

This is the most standard level of fraud. I see it nearly every time I see a car ad.

You should write a concise email to the AG or Dept of Consumer Affairs in your state.

I’m used to not showing ADM but showing a program from a year ago where the car is 3XX / month then quoting 7XX is nuts.

Will do. The description is really shady it says prices reflect 850 credit score.

You could always get the attorney general involved like some fella on here did.

Could you please share the link?

Don’t waste your energy on this, it happens hundreds of times a day across the US. Even if you complain to the proper department, they already have too many complaints ahead of you to handle.

The sales model now is to try to sneak ADM and factory installed nonsense onto the customer once they are in the dealership and hungry to buy so they just don’t say no.
