No issues here and it’s been in the 20s in Seattle area for about a week with a bunch of snow. Does sound like a tractor though when the gas engine kicks on and it’s cold.
Thanks for sharing, just added my location to the post. There is no clicking sound or other sounds at all. It’s silent and won’t start
Your 12v battery is probably dead. Common issue. Stellantis uses shitty 12v batteries. Should be an easy warranty replacement.
This is due to the engine being ran at higher rpm and intentionally loaded to preheat the cat. Add in that the engine is DI, and you get not the nest cold start sounds.
Can you plug it in the charge? The IDCM charges the LVB when you attach the charging cable.
If memory serves, it occasionally will bring the system up to charge the 12v battery if left for a long period of time, but it doesn’t constantly trickle charge it or anything like that
Thanks for the info. So I have to wait for the dealer to pick up the car and send it to the factory to get the battery replaced, then send the car back to me, right? Do you know how long it may take?
No, it’s just a 12v battery. You could go to auto zone and get one if you wanted.
All you can do is try, but I have not had any success selling in NJ without a registration card in hand.
Thanks for the info. I’m wondering if this is going to fix the root problem or it is just a short term solution? I’m a bit concerned if I have to do it periodically to start the vehicle
Dyslexic today…IDCM…in preparation for my long journey, I reviewed Brandon’s vid about what fuse to pull if you want to manually charge/boost/jump the LVB (Fuse 109-IDCM?), and his vid suggests plugging in a charger will charge the LVB and HVB at the same time. I have one of those small Li-Ion battery jumpers in my road kit, and I wanted to be prepared for this scenario.
Both my orders are still in scheduling.
10 weeks and counting for the oldest one.
There are two batteries in the 4xe (and most phev/evs). The high voltage “ev” battery that holds the charge for propelling the vehicle and the normal 12v battery for starting, running low voltage systems, etc. The 12v battery is just like the battery in every other car.
Anyone else had their insurance agent complain/interrogate why they’re replacing a recently added 4xe with another?
Tell him ancient chinese secret.
My understanding is that this is sorta true. There are times, when plugged in, that the system will come to life and provide some charge to the lvb. I don’t believe that it is doing this continuously though.
Ah I see. I believe the dealer should be able to replace the battery for me since it’s under warranty, right? It’s always good to know if it’s not a big issue.
Ya, it should be super trivial if it’s the 12v battery.
It could be other things (always good to check that all the fuses are seated, for example), but stellantis has always suffered with farming their 12v battery purchases out to the lowest bidder and early failures, especially in the cold, aren’t uncommon.
Which dealer did you lease from? If you leased back in Oct , you’ve should’ve received your plates already.
