How does Mazda lease to lease incentive work?

I have a CX-5 lease and I’m looking into maybe leasing another CX-5. There’s a $1500 Mazda lease-to-lease incentive, but it’s unclear to me how it works. Asking because I might sell my current CX-5 lease to CarMax. Does this disqualify me from the incentive if I don’t turn it in to the dealer?

Not sure I understand what this means:

Current vehicle trade-in or lease termination is REQUIRED to participate in program.

I’m terminating the lease if I’m selling the car to CarMax, in theory. Or do they mean the Mazda dealer needs to take my current car?

I took advantage of this rebate and I had to trade my CX9 into the Mazda dealer I was leasing the new one from.

I’m trying to figure out whether the dealers just claim so or it is a real requirement from Mazda. I’m not sure if my sale to CarMax will pan out (I’ll find out tomorrow morning) but they want to pay me more than the RV on my current lease, so I don’t want to just return the car to the dealer  Am I trying to double-dip?

My dealer claimed I had to turn in the old lease to them. I did, because they offered me the Carmax deal less 1500 but I got the 1500 in incentives, so easier and safer to deal with them. Leased another CX-5 from them: 2024 Mazda - CX-5 - 2.5 Turbo Signature AWD
