There’s a signed deal for a Civic Hatchback Limited Hybrid on here sold in OC in Oct 2024. They paid less than 31k for the car before taxes, title, and fee. OTD I believe they were at 33k.
I’m in Nevada but can travel to Northern California. I was hoping to buy yesterday and the dealer was refusing to budge from about $32500 and this was after apply $1500 in discounts. They told me that selling the car any less than that would be below invoice and they would lose money on the sale. The sticker after options and destination is about $35000 which just seems insane to me. I understand these cars are sought after right now but paying over $400 a month with thousands down and about 5% over 72 months for a civic just seems egregious.
I was hoping to be OTD around 33k which I didn’t think is too insane.
What is your market research for 31k? One deal from 15 months ago?
What do they typically sell for? Now in 2026?
High demand cars will have less of a discount. As you can see.
Also did you contact one dealer? I suggest you email 20 dealers with the car you want, the price you are willing to pay and how soon you will pull the trigger. Of the 20 dealers 19 might tell you to pound sand, all you need is one yes. And if you get 20 no’s then you are offering below market price for an in demand car - and will need to reset your expectations. Or research other cars that have a lower point of entry.
The only other Honda dealership in my area is selling the Hybrid Sports with $3k in markup just because and they install lojack on all the vehicles and refuse to take it off and charge you almost $900 for it so I’d be paying more for a lower trim model.
I’m more just curious if $32500 is truly invoice. I understand the model posted on the sold section here is 15 months old, but it was a 2025 model year which is no different than the 2026. I also understand tariffs are a thing but these vehicles are manufactured in the USA with global parts. I don’t see how it’s possible for a car invoice to increase almost $3k over one model year.
It’s fine if the civic truly can not be sold for less than $32500, I’ll buy something else. I’m just a little confused on how the same civic trim sold in a high COL area was able to be sold for 30k but one model year is suddenly $2500 more to manufacture
