I don’t mind buying it if tesla sell the adapter itself.
He’s looking for NEMA 14-50 version. Costco sells nema 14-50 version for $400 when it’s on sale which is like every other month.
The Emporia 48a is $400. Works fine for me and it does have a hook for the plug. I probably would have bought the Tesla universal one if it had been available when I was shopping though, it does look pretty nice.
Oohhhh wow Emporia says they’ll ship a NACS unit by March 31 for $400? This does look pretty cool. 24’ cord too.
Emporia EV Charger | NACS (Tesla) or CCS (J1772) | Energy Star | UL Li – Emporia Energy.
In Connecticut, the utility companies will rebate up to $500 for the purchase of a home EVSE that supports managed charging (and another $500 to help offset the install), but it’s only a few eligible models.
I’d been leaning Chargepoint as that’s what I use at work, but it’s not often on sale for $500, so I’d have some out of pocket…
ChargePoint Home Flex CPH50
EnelX Juicebox 32, 40, 48
EvoCharge iEVSE Home 32/40
Emporia Smart EV Charger EMEVSE1
But this thread is making me think maybe Emporia is the way to go…
Got a Grizzle installed in my garage for a Wrangler 4xe. Great charger so far
ClipperCreek. Why everyone keeps buying the cute ones with WiFi and such is beyond me. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Stick with the ones that are tried and true.
Oh yeah, it’s made in the
Because you get a more capable evse (higher amp capability, longer cord, etc) for a lower price with the emporia?
Junk chargers made in India with a one year warranty pushing that kind of power through a home with my loved ones in it? Hard pass.
Their website is even sending me those classic Yahoo shopping vibes.
3 year warranty, and fully UL tested and listed.
I stand corrected on the warranty, but an EV home charger is not where I look to nickel and dime. The two respected local electricians I’ve spoken to only touch Tesla chargers or Enphase/ClipperCreek. I’m glad they work for you though!
If there’s one thing LH should teach us is that just because you are paying more doesn’t mean you are getting more.
Nothing wrong with ClipperCreek, but nothing wrong with all the “cute” chargers others are listing here.
On top of rebates for purchase and installation of a smart charger, my electric provider pays $200/year for enrolling in managed charging.
Yes and no. If you lease a car and something goes wrong, it’s fixed for free and under warranty, so brand reliability doesn’t matter all that much. When it comes to home chargers, those are a marriage and when something goes wrong, it can be a disaster for your home. I have no issue with anyone spending their money how they’d like, but to compare buying a charger to leasing a car is nuts.
There are lots of abysmally bad evses that should be avoided like the plague. I don’t disagree at all there.
The Emporia isn’t one of them.
- If everyone had to get a proven reliable one, we all be driving camry.
- I need scheduled charging, buying a smart ev charger is cheaper than undoing my lease.
The dumb one is thinking one solution should fix all regardless the circumstances and keep digging.
I don’t disagree, I simply think you’re overgeneralizing by declaring anything that isn’t your preferred dumb charger ClipperCreek as if the homeowner was making some sort of deal with the devil and hoping the devil doesn’t do them wrong.
The data proves are many reliable smart chargers in the market.
Cool that you don’t need one, but everyone who is choosing a smart charger isn’t making some boneheaded choice that’s risking their home.
