Highlander XLE AWD get the lease transferred and lease an electric car in CA?

Dear All,

This is my first post! I am excited  Hope you can help me to decide.

I live in Ohio and recently accepted a new job in CA. Unfortunately they don’t provide relocation assistance and I am not sure if I should take my Highlander over there or get it transferred to another person and me leasing a new electric car in CA.

Here is my current deal

2018 Toyota Highlander AWD XLE - Fully Loaded - MSRP $44,500

Zero Down and I pay $344 (before taxes) and $375 (after tax)

30 Months left

For the transfer: I will not ask for anything, just take over. + I will buy you lunch or dinner

I have checked the site and seen pretty good lease deals on the electric cars. On the top of that I will be able to use HOV lanes.

Super confused… Please help.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Ali1

how much longer do you have on your lease?

Are you going to ship the car or drive the car? Shipping probably $1000+

If you wanted to lease trade out of your Toyota, be aware that it takes time, Toyota is not the fastest. Probably at least a month.

$375/mo for fully loaded XLE AWD is pretty decent, if you put it on swapalease or leasetrader you can prob find a taker, in FL that car would be $100/mo more. I assume your lease still has enough miles/mo left on it.

A few more things to consider: Gas in CA is expensive and you’re driving an AWD you won’t really need there. So you should prob take that into consideration. As far as hybrid/electric cars you see on this site are concerned, make sure they are current deals, Volt deals from last year can’t be replicated anymore.

My bad - I had to add that in my original post. 30 months left.

Shipping costs $1200 + tax vs. me driving will cost $400 I am still not sure which is better - if I cannot get it transferred.

I have not heard good things about swaplease :frowning: should I really give a try?

You are right, gas is super expensive and it will be way harder to swap it over there.

Wish me luck.

It’s also worth knowing if you’ll actually be able to charge an electric either at work (ideally for free) or at home. I live in Downtown LA and my apartment building wants to charge $175 a month for a parking spot with an electric charger AND there’s a waitlist.

I’ve just come back from a trip to Tennessee and almost cried when I saw the prices of gas there. The local Chevron closest to my house charges an eye-watering $4.90 a gallon. eeek. I try and find one for about $3.40 near work.

I actually drive a Highlander XLE and yes the mileage sucks, yes the gas is expensive but goddamn it’s comfortable when I’m approaching hour 2 stuck in traffic on the 405, so depends on your priorities. It if was me, I’d drive the Highlander to CA and re-evaluate in 6 months.

Thanks!

It will be free at my work however and most probably I will pay for the utility at my home. WOW $175 monthly / you should get it and open your own station and rent it out to people for $10/hr

You are right, we are lucky here in Mid-West, it is $2,86 here tight now.

I will be working long hours with no vacations for the first years and will not be able to re-evaluate in 6 months. If I take it with me, I am done.

344 is competitive. Post details here (color, mileage left, pictures) and it should go quite quickly (as quickly as Toyota Financial can move).

which isn’t very quick.

Pearl White, 6100 miles, this is the only picture I have available now.

Extras: Bench Seat, Special Color, Roof Rack Cross Vars, All Weather Floor Liner / Cargo Liner, Protection Package(Rear Bumper Protector, Body Side Moldings, Door Edge Guard, Wheel Locks)

Windshield is tinted - 3M

Should I post it at the Marketplace?

Do you have an idea on the ETA?

I’ve heard very mixed reviews. So I can’t give you an estimate.

I’d ditch it and save yourself the hassle of driving it across the country and pickup something that will get you a carpool sticker and use little to no gas(clarity or volt would be my choice)

Guess it will come down to how much commuting you will be doing here in So. Cal?

If you are traveling a short distance, with no fwy’s, the highlander is fine. If you will be in Cali fwy traffic, I would suggest an HOV access PHEV, or even better, a motorcycle. Takes about 1:20 hours to go 35 miles in this shit hole during rush hour.

Fastest I’ve heard is 3 weeks, and that’s not typical. Also assumes you have a taker lined up

Lol :joy: in this shithole …lol

Little bitter, in case you couldn’t tell.

Wait till Ohio guy, finds out what everything costs out here. His car will be the least of his worries. Hope he is getting a killer job.

No worries. There’s some $100-125/mo threads in here for ideas.

It takes an hour to go 15 miles in Pittsburgh during rush hour. My heart bleeds for you

If I can find someone, I will call them and let them know. Thanks!

To be honest I need to learn more about the carpool sticker vs. electric car as I have a good friend and she wants to carpool.

45 miles ± per day. I have never got on a motorcycle :frowning: Worst case scenario, I will drive it to Cal and commute with it.
