Trying to sort out taking over a killer BMW lease takeover deal from a veteran LHer. He is basically going to send my APP to BMW, help me get the trasport broker to move the sled, and be there to make sure that goes down in his drivway. After that: my deal.
I have never done this, and am petrified. I have no idea how I get license plates for this thing. Do I get some kind of lease agreement from BMW? Do I take that to the CT DMV while the car is traveling? How do I get tags to bring to inspection?
The ‘seller’ is very nice. Talks a mile a minute, and is super-knowledgable, but I worry he knows so much, he probably just can’t stand dealing with my stupid questions.
Plus: I’m not even sure it’s a good deal! As he’s right here on these forums, I feel awkward even mentioning it!!
EV SUV luxe deals right now in the NE seem to be impossible to find. Great for the drill baby drill buyers, but not me. I love the power of EVs, and the ease of charging in my driveway.
Has ayone dealt with this, who can afford the time to share the process in detail? Many thanks for any help.
I was considering a Polestar 3, but am scared of them too. Service after they exit the USA, even when they are here now, seems spotty at best. Thanks.
I’ve done very similar. Easy once you get the POA from bmw. The hardest part is the DMV appointment. At the appointment, they were only running three hours behind.
Follow the website details and ensure you have insurance in place before car gets picked up by carrier.
That aside you’re way over thinking this. Cars are bought/lessed in one state and moved to another state all the time. You’re not inventing the wheel. Get a temp tag for the drive home, then go to the DMV with the paperwork and they’ll sort it all out for you.
Factor at minimum $2k to ship to your door cross country and possibly paying taxes on the remaining payments plus transfer fee and whatever DAS the seller wants. Could be way over $10k if this is an i7 lease transfer.
You will not need to do an emissions test since the vehicle is an EV.
As for #2, BMW FS will send you a packet of information once the lease transfer is complete, containing the necessary paperwork to put the vehicle in your name.
If your potential transfer is for a BMW iX, it is a wonderful ride. I got a loaded 2025 iX xDrive50 with DHP and it is great.
