Help us negotiate our lease for a 2025 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport L in Chicago

We are going back and forth with a dealer on this. It’s the lowest OTD total we’ve seen (we’re in Chicago) so we were happy with it. However, he quoted us at $680/month for 36 months, 10K warranty, nothing down upfront - which is just too high. We have 750+ credit. We called them out on it and are waiting to hear back about what MF and residual value they are using. I’m seeing that MF should be about .0028 with an RV of 67%.

We also told them we won’t pay for the Protection Package and asked for a more thorough breakdown of the deal.

Any other tips/what should our expected monthly payment be? The calculators I am seeing online are saying around $550/month but not sure I am inputting it right. Clearly we are new to this!! Thank you!!

Without plugging everything into the calculator to figure out where you are off on the lease numbers, I’ll ask on behalf of @max_g… What makes you think the CRV hybrid is a good lease candidate? You’d be paying for the entire value of the car over two lease cycles, for a car that is known to hold its value well.

If you want a CRV, Buy it. If you want to lease, find a vehicle that is at least semi-hackable.

Leasing in Chicago is a non-starter. Buy this thing.

Thanks for the perspective - buying doesn’t make sense for our family right now for a lot of reasons. Any thoughts on the deal?

~20% tax doesn’t ever make sense

$680 for a CRV looks miserable.

A cheap EV would make more sense than this hideous CRV quote, even with the additional city tax.

I would personally never pay this much for a CR-V. If this was the only car I was interested in, I would purchase.

To the degree you’re comfortable, can you explain why purchasing doesn’t make sense? I have a hard time imagining how purchasing doesn’t make sense but paying $600 or more a month does.

As others have mentioned, are you open to any other vehicle or segments? If not full EV, there are a few cheap PHEV leases which would provide much more bang for the buck than this.

I’d be wary of driving this with a family. Look up the steering rack issues. No clue if fixed for the 25 but it’s extremely dangerous. Our 23 CRV hybrid suffered from it. Basically the steering gets stuck and good luck turning! Do your due diligence to make sure the 25s aren’t affected and are using the updated parts.

Honda reliability is absolute shit these days. We dumped ours after less than a year because Honda couldn’t get the part to fix it. It was unsafe for my wife to drive with my son.

But I believe Honda is offering 4.49/72 months. I know you said leasing makes sense but I don’t see why you wouldn’t finance it.

Doesn’t make any sense to keep attempting to push square pegs into round holes.

Buy a CRV or lease something that’s hackable, those are really your options.

OP, did you close this deal? That discount is the highest I have seen.

I wouldn’t lease a CR-V for that much. I’m not sure if Chicago dealerships include the 11% Chicago lease tax or if that’s collected on top of that on the monthly payment. I recently leased a Hyundai Ioniq 5 out of state. It was like 24/12k. $509 per month. HMF charges the Chicago lease tax every month on top of that making the monthly payment $565
