Help! 2018 BMW x2 issues at servicing

Hello hackrs.
I am leasing a 2018 BMW x2 xdr281 since Dec 2018. Its a 3-year lease and will end this year in Dec 2021. Last week the sensor went off indicating an issue with the front brake pad. I took it into BMW for this servicing over the weekend and was told it will be $1,224 to replace the front brakes. I approved them to fix it as I assumed that would be the only issue and left with a loaner car.
They called me a couple hours later and told me that the rear brakes also needed replacing ($1,364); 2 front tires are almost hitting metal ($658) and 4 wheels alignment needs replacing ($330).
Total is $3,576.
I think mileage is at about 25,000 but I have been working from home for over a year now and barely driven the car except for short trips on paved roads so am pretty shocked.
Any advice for this situation? Do I need to replace the tires with them or could I go elsewhere where I may get a better deal on tires and alignment? I am about 6 months out from my lease ending, so I’m also concerned about paying this money now and then being charged for more wear and tear when I turn the car in.
I have never leased before so feel really vulnerable to getting screwed $ wise.

Also: I have been paying $50 extra per month (for “lease wear and tear” which says “protects against unexpected wear and tear charges at lease end”.

Thank you in advance!

take it to an independent mechanic for the brakes and alignment and a tire shop for some new tires. $1200 for front brake pads is highway robbery.

I’m 99% sure that the contract says more than “protects against unexpected wear and tear charges at lease end”. What does it cover? Did you talk to anybody at the dealer about this?

$1800 is a crazy amount of money for a service contract on a vehicle that has 3yr/36k mile free maintenance.

Anyway regarding the charges…

Any shop can do this for 1/5th of this price or you can do it for 1/15th

I don’t know what this means, can you explain?

An alignment anywhere else is $90-110. I’m not sure if you can even adjust the rear alignment on an X2. On most modern vehicles you cannot.

Thank you. Do the brand of tires need to be replaced with the exact brand BMW uses or is any comparable fine?

Generally just comparable spec/quality/type. So if it has run flats, you need run flats. Needs to be the same speed rating, etc

Yikes! This is why I keep telling people, don’t just look for someone to spoonfeed you the answer to “what’s a good deal?” A lot of bad things happen in the finance office where there’s no one from LH to save you.

Just sold my X2 to vroom for $1700 over the buyout. Same lease start and end for me of Dec 2018 - Dec 2021. Also needed 2 front tires. Just FYI.

Any brand name RFT. Buy used tires of EBay and put them on. Dealer I did my lease turn in said I had 3.5mm of tread left so I bought used rfts on EBay with like 5mm of tread for $80/piece and turned them in with no problem.

Front and rears don’t have to match, but they have to be the same tire on each axle. Not sure if it’s any different for xdrive.

Re brake sensor, either just reset the service light or get them done at an independent mechanic.

Yep was just going to say this. Sell it, it’s now someone else’s problem lol.

Hey Q did you end up selling yours too?
Appreciate your help to decide to sell my x2s at 30k when the trade value was 26k. Got around 1100 in equity.

Definitely in the OP case I would sell.

yup. they took it away last Monday.
