Do you not collect your broker fees up front ? You have made similar comments in the past about brokers only selling phone numbers but I doubt anyone here has seen any such issue brought to light.
Now if your talking about unregistered brokers or normal members just trying to cash in on sharing an available deal, that’s different.
on deals where i collect a fee, i do not collect it until the car is delivered.
Being adversarial with the dealer doesn’t mean what you think it means.
His business model is to create just enough of a perception of a better deal than the customer can get on his own to justify his fee, close the deal, and move on to the next uninformed customer who wants to believe the schtick
People on LH very often get better deals than him without being adversarial. We just don’t bother to “create content” around it. It would also be very easy to script this content because people love to see the dealer get “owned”
And yes I do place the responsibility on the entire industry for creating these unfavorable perceptions which allow someone to monetize their “owning” content. It’s not like there’s much demand for content about calling veterinarians, nurses or kindergarten teachers to berate them.
Agreed. 99% of the internet influencers are staged I would imagine. This is no different. He may have started out legitimately arguing with sales guys, but if they’re doing 200 cars a month that isn’t going to get you very far or a repeat business model with dealers. Better to find dealers that already play ball instead of making them play ball.
If you watch any of his videos, quite often the deal gets done with a friendly dealer that knows who he is and might even be watching the stream at that moment. I suspect that most of his customers who actually end up getting a car are coming from dealers that are known quantities to him and the rest of the back and forth with randos is just for show. I’m sure that even he knows that arguing with BDC and rank and file salespeople is totally pointless, if your goal is to get a good deal on a car.
I haven’t watched any of his content but is the name of the dealership mentioned or remains anonymous ? If dealer name is clearly mentioned, couldn’t it be a paid advertisement by that dealer to attract more traffic ? And if it is anonymous, it could be all just Bullshit never happening deals lol
(Let me put my broker hat on and sell you a $500 i7, all you gotta say in response is Thanks for an awesome deal)
He generally doesn’t mention dealer names but he might also be keeping his short list of “good” dealers close to the vest. There’s almost always a guy who calls him out of the blue who was “watching the stream and has what he needs”
Exactly my point. Its not as fancy as this WSJ article make it sound but obviously for the masses that read WSJ, its a wow factor business.
We need to get the WSJ to do a piece about LH. They can interview “DJCappi” about how to get ABA discounts on Volvos.
Several former finance coworkers messaged me about this article yesterday. It clearly has made the rounds. Obviously, it’ll help drive clicks, which is really what this is about. There is no “car dealer’s worst nightmare” going on here. It’s a guy randomly beating up on BDC mouthbreathers while live-streaming it. That’s it. That’s the entire game. Should set it to the music from “curb your enthusiasm” b/c it’s a clown show.
I’m tempted to pay him and tell him that unless I get 30% off a GT3RS I am not 100% happy
and that’s why you’re on leasehackr and not on whatever streaming platform this is from.
I’m just of the opinion that marketers and influencers aren’t usually doers and doers aren’t really marketers/influencers. In the industries that I’ve been involved in, the great people don’t need to promote themselves, their reputation does all the talking. So maybe I’m jaded against influencers but I’ve got my reasons lol
Yeah, if their goal is to be a white glove service and take the pain away from car buying, I think the attention would be more on the experience instead of the deal/savings.
The problem is when Delivrd then boasts scoring “the best possible deal”… which implies the outcome is also financially a bunch of savings for the customer.
Throw in their BS about being a ‘personal shopper’ and not a ‘broker’ and the entire situation reeks.
The auto industry has always had room for opportunists though. So we take the good with the bad. Although in your case you get nothing since you want a GT3 RS for MSRP.
From the sounds of his guarantee policy he won’t refund you but he will be your therapist after you make a bad car decision….
100%, this is doing it right. ![]()
This guy is a clown, there is no need to be adversarial, shout at someone, call someone a liar, or just be an asshole. I want a nice car, and I am totally ok with the seller making a little profit too.
Has the equine corpse been pummeled enough yet?
it’s time to re-up your ioniq5 btw.
Honestly his model is less scalable and more inefficient than brokers. A broker negotiates one deal and offers it to everyone — this guy has to negotiate every single deal individually. $1000 doesn’t sound like much if he’s spending several hours on each one.
The money is in the clicks and views, not the fee.
