Look at Vadim Moda’s watch group, recommended if you’re looking at secondary or a horologist.
Watches are like almost everything now. There’s msrp and market value. Unless you waited in crazy lines then you’re paying market rate on those new swatch/omegas. Pricing of luxury watches are dropping though so if not in a rush I would wait.
The Moonswatch is not a limited edition. Paying anything over the msrp is insanity.
yeah watches are plummeting in value right now. msrp is fairly easily attainable on most non-limited editions. even some rolexes are coming back to earth. not in my personal taste, but i guess to each their own.
Haven’t worn a watch in over 40 years, much too civilized.
Not dropping by much - still either waiting 5+ years for a $15k 116500 Daytona or paying $35k+ (better than $50k a few months ago, but still preposterous). The new $11k GMT Explorer II 126720 “lefty” is all over the gray market for $35k+. My AD is saying they won’t have allocations any time soon.
Times are so bad that rolex ADs are now looking in the garbage for your waitlist and desperate to sell pieces. Reality is slowly coming back. The intrinsic value of watches as other goods is how high will you pay for one. With china shut down, your able to buy more goods for realistic prices even msrp; such as rolex watches.
I’m actually interested in picking up an Omega x Swatch, something nice looking but not too heart-wrenching if it gets stolen.
Call me a poser, but a few hundred buck watch is something I’d feel comfortable wearing everywhere, and if it looks nice - win win for me.
The Moonswatch will eventually be available online, but that was supposed to go live already so who knows when that will actually happen. I would pass on getting one of these unless you are flipping it. Lots of owners report issues since it is cheap. There are much better options available for the same price than a $25 watch with some Omega branding.
@HersheySweet If you buy one of these, you might as well buy a BMW 320 and put some M badges on it.
I would love to know where these ADs are. Everything except ladies watches are months to years away in my experience. The new Rolex I bought last year is still easy 50% above the original retail price and it isn’t even one of the most desirable models.
Ditto. I recently bought a Tudor Black Bay instead of a Rolex since I was tired of being waitlisted. Not like the Omega, Panerai or other watches couldn’t hold me over
I’d rather park my 320 with m badges in the hood then a G80 M3.
Funny enough I put my name down for a Tudor BB with the Pepsi dial. It came within a week, but my salesperson (who is a client of mine) quit and the only reason for that watch was to start a relationship for Rolex. Went to another AD, put a deposit down for the Panda Chrono and was told 6-12 months. Went to another Rolex AD a few months later and they only sell local (they just sell Rolex, nothing else including jewelry). Told them I wanted a DJ or Air-King, and 2 months later I had a new AIr-King. I cancelled my Tudor Chrono order and just waiting for a Polar Explorer II, which is coming up on a year but I am in no rush to get it. I have about 3 watches I rotate in/out for daily wear already. Also put my name down for the new Air King and will just trade in my current one if I like the changes.
EDIT: Watches are a lot like cars. Some people like nice, expensive, exotic cars…others are ok with the basics. I had a friend in SF who would wear a 25k vintage Rolex but drove a Geo Metro.
Same with wives and gfs…some like nice, expensive, exotic women…others prefer basics
That’s fine…just make sure the ones you’re trying to impress are worth impressing. Anyone I know who would be impressed by my watch are folks I wouldn’t spend a dime impressing.
This is leasehacker not rolex hacker. My advice is try small town mom and pop shops. Even in big cities you can get lucky.
My understanding is that swatch stores are routinely restocking and it’s no longer that difficult to find in-person.
I’m sure they’re okay for what they are and from a marketing perspective, I thought it was smart. My two scents though, if you like the look of a speedy, just buy the real deal. Depending on year and model, you can get a Speedmaster for a relatively descent price.
I enjoy watches. I try and justify it to myself by only owning one at a time. If I want something new, got to sell what I have. I’ve owned Rolex, Jaeger, Cartier, and a few others. I’ve had my Speedy for almost ten years now. Can’t imagine parting with it at this point.
relatively decent for a speedmaster vs $250 or whatever the moonswatch costs is a pretty big difference.
I’d daily a moonswatch, not sure i’d daily a regular speedy.
Yes, you’re definitely right. I should have clarified, I meant to say you can get a speedy for a relatively descent price compared to comparable offerings from Rolex, etc. A Speedmaster is certainly significantly more expensive than a moonswatch. As someone who daily’s a vintage Speedmaster, it’s a terrific watch to have on your wrist everyday.
I have a vintage seamaster being repaired with Omega. Think waiting on a 4xe is long? They told me 6-12 months repair time, it’s been about 3 months.
Definitely won’t be a daily watch tho. I’d love a moonswatch that I can be a little more careless with as a daily.
PS. nice speedy! I tried a couple on in store but wasn’t sold.
