GM Rewards Card Sales Sign Up and Spend Offer Questions

Apologies if this is not the right place to post.

My wife signed up and was approved for the GM Rewards Card via a link texted by dealer. According to Barclay’s, she’s supposed to have received an email with a link to get a temporary account number to spend the $1k at the dealer in order to get the $500 bonus. That email never came, not in spam, nowhere. Reached out to Barclay’s and the agent said that the offer isn’t showing on her account, but there are offers that can only be viewed by GM themselves. Anyways, I am completely at a loss.

For those who have successfully used this promotion, did you receive an email with a link for a temp account number? Can you briefly describe how the process went down? I searched the forum and saw several mentions of this topic, but didn’t see anything definitive on how it played out for anyone. I thought this would be rather seamless; it hasn’t.

TIA

Was she approved after she submitted?

Yes. Apparently I’m not the only one who has had issues. Finance said she will call Barclay’s GM support person when we are there to fix it.

Got this resolved by finance manager calling their Barclays contact while my wife was on the line with her. End of the day, it was a technical issue. To resolve we went to applicationstatus.com on a Private Edge browser and after verifying personal details the temp account information was there. This was after multiple other attempts at that website with no results. I’m thinking it was a cookies/cache issue. So for anyone else who did not receive the temporary account info in email, or deleted it accidentally from spam, try the applicationstatus.com method on a clean browser. You can also text GM to 60956 to get a link to try the same.

Its not a specific offer its a Barclays end bug. We didn’t have this problem for our lyriq, but you can usually resolve by calling. Sometimes Amex wont give an instant number for risk management reasons, but barclays is usally p consistent (if u get approved, keklol)

Who uses Edge?

I’m signing tomorrow morning and supposed to do the card too, but I did not know it had to be spent then & there at the dealership on the car deal. I have a $0 DAS deal… what do I do/how do I make this work if I will not owe $1k on anything.

Also I haven’t gotten a QR code and didn’t want to mess it up by doing it wrong so I was going to do it all when I get there to sign. (Also as insurance in case the paperwork has any funky surprises so I can walk and not lose the chance to use that incentive at my backup dealer.) But now it’s sounding like a longer involved thing & may not be feasible to do at the signing?

I think we were the exception when it comes to ease of this process, so I wouldn’t expect you to experience the same.

As for actually having $1k to spend on, I’m assuming you’re paying first month payment? Maybe add dealer fee and/or upfront taxes to that. Otherwise I’m quite sure your F&I agent will have some great ideas on how to spend the $1k. If your dealer is real nice, maybe they’ll just cut you a check back for $1k minus any processing fees. Enjoy your new ride.

So remember I cherry-picked from a past post. My understanding is that you get $500 rebate from GM for opening up a card at the dealer. I don’t remember seeing that you have to spend a MIN amount in order to get the rebate…. A lot of times people put their DAS on the card or in some cases do a one-pay with the card (if the dealer allows), which gets you points…

I guess you can purchase an extended warranty and then cancel it.
