I figured the dealership would screw something up, but here it is
GM Financial just added the car to the account and I logged in to see everything and look around.
Payments are $296 a month for a 15k lease; 36 months
What I signed: $310 a month for a 12k lease; 36 months
I kind of just want to leave things alone and pay the $296, would be that be OK? Should I ask GM Financial what paperwork they have for my lease and ask to see it?
Did you end up signing to sets of paperwork ? I recall you had something going on with the tires and wheels insurance too. By any chance was ur payment dealer told you $310 per month with TW for any of the mileage options ?
nope, it was only one set. I turned down all their insurance. I asked them for quotes for 15k miles beforehand, but I signed 12k miles and $310. They really had no idea what they were doing. The finance guy said 15k was same price as 12k, then the sales manager said no, 12k is a little bit more. So they are a mess over there.
I am perfectly fine with the $296/15k price, but I just dont want to be bitten in the butt if I actually do use over 36k miles. I have no clue what they submitted to GM either.
Alrighty, I got a copy of what they got sent. The values are definitely different, but the mileage should still be 12k. Any idea on what might have happened on the money part? I will attach the old one (the one I signed) and the new one (what GM has).
Should I still go with 12k or go with that GM financial has on the website (15k)?
hmmm…seems like the dealer may have changed the paperwork due to some error in calculations. Which is not uncommon, even with the most knowledgable F&I person, but they still must get you to sign the final one. Does this one have your signature on it? If not, I would ask the dealer what happened and to send you a mutually executed copy of the contract.
Right now, your signed contract is the only legal binding document and the terms contained therein are the only ones that matter. The GMF website could just have a clerical error. But in any event, I would make sure that you and GMF have a fully executed copy of your final contract.
For the document that got sent to GM, it seems they created an electronic signature for me and signed it with that, but I never saw the document until now or signed it.
Typically no, although based on what you’re saying I really wouldn’t worry.
The dealer probably fat fingered something on the original contract and didn’t realize it until later. They fixed the numbers, which resulted in a lower payment, slapped an e-signature on it and sent it through, most people would never know.
They probably also thought they were doing you a mild favor by not hassling you to re-sign the contract, and also giving you an even lower payment, even though it was their mistake causing it.
And as ahash noted if the updated contract shows 12k miles then go with that. No idea why online it would show 15k.
In reality, it’s fraud. But as others have mentioned, you have to decide if you want to make a fuss about it. I’m very OCD, so this would get me very upset based on principle, not the economic impact. If the dealer was local to me, I’d probably go down there and ask to have a meeting with the F&I guy and the GM to talk about this. I would also worry what else they may or may not have done with your e-signature. That’s why most contracts require some level of authentication by the signer before an e-signature can be used.
But, again, up to you to decide. But this document, if you choose to accept it, is your legal binding contract. So this governs your lease, not what’s online.
Thanks everyone. The dealership is 3.5 hours away, I’ll just let it go and enjoy the lower payments. Pretty funny that it got even lowered more by GM afterwards to $296. Went from $310, to $301, to $294.
I think GM did 15000 miles because the residual they listed in the contract is calculated at 64%.
12000 miles should have been 66% and I asked the dealership 5 times to make sure and they kept insisting that 64% is 12000 miles.
I guess it got sorted by GM afterwards and it is what it is.
I would still let the manager at the dealership know that you have become aware of this. God knows what they would be doing to other peoples contracts. In ur case, the result was favorable. May not be the case for others.
