Not sure where to put this so hoping this community can help! I got a 36 month BMW x3 lease in August 2021. My currently monthly is $585. I moved from CA to NH a little while ago and trying to sort out whether I should buyout the lease /sell or keep the lease. It would cost $32k to buy out. The BMW dealer here is offering $31k to take the car now. I ultimately need a bit more appropriate car for backroads here but of course the BMW x3 is awesome. I don’t quite know when the optimal time is to try to sell? Any thoughts / insights appreciated.
Did you actually take it to the dealer or did you just receive a mailer, because the mailers are just to get you into the dealer to sell you another car.
What would you replace the X3 with?
Why do you feel the X3 is not appropriate, is it a RWD car?
If you truly need to replace it (be warned cars are def. more expensive now, you’ll have to factor that into your replacement) with BMW you can transfer out of the lease, posting to Private Transfers might be an option for you to get out without paying.
It’s just such a nice car and the roads back here are so crappy. Not sure it is worth it to keep it out here?
I understand - I loved my RWD BMW, and I miss it quite often.
Consider what you’d need to do, and when you figure that out - we can collectively point you in the right direction.

If you’re happy with the car, all you really need is a set of the right tires.
You sound just like @Bostoncarconcierge, throwing some winters on an FWD/RWD car (not necessarily the worst idea).
I love and miss my old Saabs
Beasts in snow
I miss my ‘old’ Volvos, we are a German household now
X3 to a Forester is okay if you like torture. Forester is loud, slow, and has a garbage interior. XC40 or XC60 is a much better choice
We are talking about NH and
You can’t compare a Subaru to a BMW or Volvo, obviously. But “garbage” interior? Come on.
Bad roads? Sounds like you need a g63 squared.
Re Volvo - does it handle bad roads that much better than a BMW? Is the concern just snow driving or potholes and stuff likw that
Considering New England is full of old and new Volvos, it should do fine on any backroads. Their AWD is able to handle any of the off-roading I do at wineries - even after a random torrential downpour it was fine
Are you comparing Volvo’s FWD-biased AWD going to wineries to Subaru’s all time AWD in the snow? Get real.
How bad are the roads? Do you live on a dirt road where you need a pickup truck or something tougher than an X3?
You are going to have to make that decision. If I were in your shoes, I would just keep the BMW for now.
If you replaced the BMW, would you still lease or finance your next vehicle?
I lived in Boston and all you need is a good set of winter tires. Let the car to the rest. BMW X3 is a great car to get around in unless you doing 100mph in the snow.
Is your car RWD? Maybe that’s your concern? I would keep the lease till it ends to be honest
