Getting a repair bill for leased Jeep

I have a 2022 jeep grand Cherokee 4xe that I was having issues with took it in for a repair. The car is still under full warranty. The dealership wants to charge me $1300 because they are saying a wire was chewed through probably by a rodent.
The issue I’m having happened when I ran out of gas near my house, I had some gas at my house so I just brought that gas and put in the car. It had a rough idle from that point so I assumed it was something in the gas and after a fill up it would work itself out. The problem continued so I took it into the dealer they are now saying a wire was chewed through and it needs this new wire that was chewed through.
I never told the dealer about running out of gas.

What should I do here?

Is your concern that you think there is no chewed wire and it’s something related to the gas? Take it to an independent mechanic to look at for a 2nd opinion. The repair will probably be cheaper too if it’s something that falls out of warranty coverage.

Whether it’s a chewed wire or bad gas, you’re at fault.

Thanks for the response!
They sent a video showing the wire, being separated
My concern is this issue happened right after running out of gas, but now the dealer is blaming it on this wire, that I don’t think they can really know that a rodent chewed through it.
It’s not something you can really 100% determine and i know that it is more like it had something to do with the gas I put in the car.
I want this repair to be covered by the dealer
So mostly posting here to check if I’m being unreasonable or should I take this further up the chain

If it is a rodent that chewed a wire, your auto policy comprehensive coverage should kick in to pay for the repair. Depending on your deductible and if you want the claim on your history- it may or may not be worth filing. You should talk to your insurance agent to see if it is a good idea or not.

Also, what @Siejammy said, take it to an indy mechanic to see if you can fix it for less.

An indy mechanic can still do warranty work, you just have to submit the receipts after.

No one can really speak to your issue definitively re: gas or the wire. If they did a video diagnostic and you have seen the wire is damaged or split, then I doubt a 2nd opinion will be different.

As to if it was a rat, the dealer has no real incentive that I can think of to deny warranty work and kick you the bill…they get paid either way. But an indy shop may be able to do the job for less if they come to the same conclusion.

Assuming the gas had an issue was my first thought, however it could be a problem caused by the vehicle running out of gas which shouldn’t cause damage. The 4xe has an issue with notifying that you are low on gas

It has an issue knowing whether or not it’s full sometimes too :joy:
