Could be as simple as someone walked in and paid retail so you were sidelined in the name of profit.
Shit happens and it’s a big reason why we don’t just work with any random dealer.

Or someone from the dealership said I can give it to my brother/mother/aunt/cousin for similar price
WHOA! Never ever give the dealer a deposit especially if the car is on their lot. I never give a deposit. If they ask for one so they can hold the car. I simply tell them no. I’ll be there within three hours to sign. In the meantime, sell it if the opportunity arises. I’ll call you 1/2 hour before I arrive.
Incompetence is Genesis’ love language
Until you can accept that you should date other brands
They are about a 15 hour drive from me, so that’s not exactly an option unfortunately. We were going to esign, the same as I did on my last lease. Only remaining thing to figure out was if I was going to ship it or fly out and drive back.
Fair, but from what I can tell it’s a really small store in a part of the country electric cars aren’t exactly flying off the shelves. One manager is who I was speaking with on Saturday, and the other manager is who called me today to finalize. Frankly, I just dont believe them that it sold, but I guess it doesn’t really matter, at the end of the day it’s their car to sell.
They said they didn’t have anymore. Do you want them to sell you a car they don’t have AGAIN?
Hah, sorry, they didn’t have any more of that trim. They did have the same car in another trim that was more expensive.
So I worked in a genesis dealership not too long ago. The sales people have the same pay plan as the hyundai sales people and can often sell both brands. NONE of them are motivated to sell the genesis as you are often asking for 5xx,6xx,7xx payments to make the same money as selling an elantra for 199/mo.
The average genesis customer isnt really a luxury buyer either. It is primarily mazda/hyundai/kia buyers hoping a g70 costs the same as a sonanta. Hyundai buyers understand, cheap car, cheap payment, cheap experience for the cheap buyer.
Genesis is the same cheap buyer, wanting a nicer car, for the same cheap payment with a luxury experience.
Please note, I have worked in BOTH a hyundai and Genesis store and have owned vehicles from both.
Does Mazda really attract the same buyers as a Hyundai/Kia? The experience at my local Mazda dealership (which also sells Volvos) are pretty nice.
I was unclear. Genesis attracts the Mazda/hyundai/kia buyer
Genesis HOPED to get the Acura/Lexus/Infiniti/Caddy/ AND MAYBE cheapy bmw/mb/audi folks.
This is NO hate on the actual vehicles. The g90 is my “attainable” dream car.
Great car, call in some circle cash!
I will add that I’ve had three good experiences with Genesis dealers. I got my dad a 2019 G90 RWD 3.3 from Modern Hyundai in NC back when they were under 70k MSRP.
Second was Zimbrick in WI, for a 5k mile ‘used’ 2021 g90 after the first was totaled.
Lastly, Checkered Flag in VA has serviced both cars and always has a loaner. They are very good on the customer service end and did not care (extract scheduling revenge) that the cars were leased/purchased elsewhere. Zimbrick and CF have lots of luxury brands, so maybe that helps.
Did you not take that great deal you got on EV9 yet?
Decided against the EV9. Went for a quick test drive locally and just wasn’t right for me. Passed it along to someone who reached out to me about it.
I’m sorry but this seems like you are doing a lot of work to lease a car that apparently no one wants to sell you (or meet your terms to buy). Why are you still doing this? Is this specific car really worth all of this?
I stopped reaching out to Genesis dealers weeks ago, this is all them circling back around and trying to make a deal, but then apparently backing out at the last second.
I mean it’s no real work on my part anymore, I already have a Rivian on order and as of last night, a confirmed delivery date. But I still like the car, if they want to try and make a deal happen that will make me walk from the Rivian and apparently waste their own time, so be it.
Ok good, i’m glad this isn’t coming from you (somehow I missed that). Hopefully you like the Rivian, seems like they are quite fun.
R1S or R1T?
R1T. I like the R1S but the leases aren’t nearly as competitive and with the 6k f&f discount that only applies to the R1T Large, it’s not even in the same ballpark.
One of these days Rivian is going to learn that having a bunch of strangers spamming employees on LinkedIn, Reddit, X, etc to get F&F rebates is hurting the company more than if they just ran an incentive program normally.
Plus some watchdog could seek penalties against Rivian for making the availability of the F&F incentive unequal. Since only customers that were tech-savvy could get access to all the random F&F going on.
