For real, I’m carrying a ton of insurance through State Farm. Through 2022 it does seem like the bundles were resulting in big savings. Every once in a while, I would reach out to competing insurance providers just to sense check my premiums, and my insurance package would basically double if I went with someone else.
My cousin who is about my age with at the time an identical car (Model 3) … identical driving record (no infractions or claims) … and family/home structure was getting quoted like 40% more when getting insurance through Costco or State Farm in 2021.
But it seems every major carrier in California has stopped underwriting new home and auto policies (barf). So it seems State Farm now gets to just jack up premiums since existing customers can’t switch any more lol.
I had the same experience with Geico. Although it wasn’t for an accident. They wouldn’t let me keep the insurance quote I had. They would not accept emails or any other form of communication. They would first send me an email stating they have sent out a mail with a list of documents I need to send them. The day I would receive that letter in the mail would be the last day to respond to them through mail of course. They gave me like 4 days and I only received their letter on the forth day. The day I opened the letter was the day I got the email stating they closed my account and I can no longer have insurance with them.
You should easily be able to change the start date on the StateFarm policy to tomorrow. Having a lapse for even one day is a huge no no for insurance companies and NYS dmv can suspend your registration, avoid it all costs
I will give it a try. I really didn’t think it would come to this. I thought Geico would continue my coverage after I provided the documents and I didn’t think that everyone else will deny me coverage.
I agree with you on State farm being a whole lot cheaper than the competitors when looking for a complete bundle coverage…Every once in a while when they announce a price hike - i look at alternatives, Farmers, Allstate, AAA, etc and resort to quickly closing the browser when i see my premiums being Double with the competitors vs what i would be paying with the current provider even after the price hike!
The culprit of the massive premium spike was his teen driver. While I respect that a teen driver is more risky to insure, it’s not to the magnitude that I think justifies that type of premium spike.
Lol I lived in Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, and briefly in Novi. I leave to San Francisco, California and am surrounded by cracked out homeless and poop on the streets every day. But the one time I go back to Detroit I got mugged near Greektown.
Never going back there even if they put Robocops everywhere. But no wonder your insurance is crazy high hah.
This is the primary culprit; the digits (or lack thereof) on a window sticker often have little correlation with higher premiums.
I was told that the battery in the 4xe’s has a $3-4k disposal charge and lord knows what the replacement costs. 4xe insurance is now considerably more than my 24 Rubicon 392.
Im going through the same problem . Get this, in August of 2021 I fled my state left everything for good cause. Then the following year twice in my new state while stopped at a stop light, sitting there for a good minute both times get hit in the back. One was a drunk driver the other one was a kid that hit 3 cars behind me.
Tell me why they’re terminating me even for fleeing my home. What does fleeing my home have to do with auto insurance??? They listed all 2 - not at fault accidents, 1 not at fault “other”
My new has one of the highest rate of insurance and I’m already struggling. All other rates are even more high. They say they can terminate at any time before June for any reason
I work with a nurse who had storm damage to her house. Insurance is State Farm and it has been a nightmare. It’s about two years out and they are accepting about half what the repairs are just to be done with it. I hope that’s not common with SF. It’s the only person that I know that has had an issue so admittedly a small sample size.
think about talking to the state insurance commissioner’s office to see if they can help or if you can file a complaint. Seem like they shook give you more time since they do not accept email, alternatively if you initially filed a claim, most insurance companies have a claim app, so you might be able to file the docs under that claim in the app, since it is related. That way they can get them quickly
