Ford Lease - Excess wear and tear

,

Hello,

I looked online but was unable to find an answer. My ford explorer lease is coming to an end in December and unfortunately another car scratched mine in the parking lot. I didn’t see it happen. My insurance deductible is 500. Does anyone know how much is th excess wear and tear fee for Ford? I need an estimate so I can figure out if I should fix this scratch using my insurance. Thanks for your help!

To get an idea of cost, get an estimate at a collision shop. It should be in a similar ballpark as to what Ford will charge you. I would also imagine an experienced Ford dealer may be able to give you a rough idea from their experience, too.

There are a couple of paintless dent removal guys around me who also do some very light paint touch up work which usually is a fraction of what a collision shop charges. Might not be a bad idea to check in your area.

As a general rule of thumb, you don’t want to run small claims through your insurer even if above your deductible. While hit-and-run damage is likely nonchargeable as far as your rates go, any claims can affect your standing from a frequency standpoint and will also likely count against you with another insurer should you ever shop around.

Also, here’s a link to Ford’s wear and use evaluator card in case you haven’t seen it: https://www.ford.com/finance/content/dam/ford64/us/pdf/lease-end/wear_use_evaluator_card.pdf

Just schedule your lease end inspection as soon as you can, typically starting at 60-90 days before your lease end date. Then you’ll know exactly what Ford will charge you, and you can make the call at that time whether it’s cheaper to fix it on your own or just turn it in and pay whatever damage penalty they assess you.

Thanks. I will do that. Maybe they waive the fee if I take out another ford vehicle.

This is helpful. Thanks.

From what I have seen in the past it is usually a per pannel charge- and they are usually capped. If it is not waived I would guess it will be cheaper to just turn it in and pay the fee. That keeps it off of your insurance records and will probably be the same or less than a deductible. A lease end inspecion will answer the question for sure.
