Flags and moderation

It’s not that hard to stick to the cold hard facts without getting emotional about it, taking things out of context and denigrating others political alignment, beliefs or specific figures.

Some seem to have a pressing and or compulsive need to do the latter and it’s all just so tiresome.

Well, whether right or wrong - like i said nobody is forced to read it so I am not really even sure how it matters.

I think that as long as we stick to the topic at hand, we’ll be fine. For example, every comment should be on how tariffs are affecting prices and supply of cars. We don’t care if you’re trumps #1 lover or #1 hater. We’re here to talk about cars and buying/leasing them!

And in that spirit, I’m going to be changing my profile picture. I understand how polarizing it could be in this newish political environment

So you have a bazillion people on Reddit.

Reddit has NSFW content in some groups.

Some people don’t like NSFW content.

Some people do like NSFW content.

People on Reddit complain about NSFW content yet they do not have to engage in it.

Reddit has survived.

There are many Reddits on the Interwebs.

It matters because Leasehackr Forum is a shared public space just like our city is a shared public space. We don’t tell people to look away and not visit the park if someone is littering in the park.

I understand the recent tariff triggers a lot of emotions, but LH really isn’t the right outlet for those emotions. We are here to help each other cope with the economic impact of the policy change as relates to car shopping, not to sway others’ political position. A better way to voice your political grievances is through town hall and writing letters to your congress representative.

Well I do not disagree in general.

However, like all things in life you will see money, love, politics and religion have some bearing on almost any issue at some point.

To think otherwise is what is actually “looking away” at its best.

Right now someone has to make a decision on where the limit is. Best comparison is the Supreme Court, I don’t care if you agree or don’t agree with the outcome but someone has to make a decision that is final, half the people wont like it and the other half will, but it has to be made and finalized.

One other issue is that the policy, to the extent one exists, is enforced selectively against some people yet others get away with ridiculously political statements in all kinds of threads.

This is going on as we speak in other threads that haven’t been closed, full of posters that have no sanctions and seemingly never have their posts flagged.

Selective enforcement and the flagging issue does not help at all.

Have a seperate section for any economic talk and don’t bump it to the top of the main page. Then 98% of visitors won’t even know it’s there but we can still have some discourse.

We need to get rid of flags or make flags readable by choice.

Maybe a “Politics Landfill” is a good idea? Let people argue in a place away from the general area?

How about we just create a PM thread for those who want to engage in such political discussions?

With all due respect, we are very tired of moderating unproductive political discussions.

I think that’s a great idea. FFA in a Massive PM?

Right, so nobody other than the original people on the PM can join, let alone see it?

Post of the year. Those that don’t like it can stay out. How does that harm anyone?

Yes people who want to join the PM can raise their hands here. People are free to leave the PM as they wish.

That’s the point. It’s a walled garden. People can opt in if they want.

Can we get a pinned or a wiki? That’s not a bad idea!

I don’t think we need to pin the topic since LH is not designed to be a forum for political discussions. People can just raise their hands here if they want to join the PM. Or they will be invited to the PM if they talk about politics in public.

I really like that idea (and I think it being a PM makes it clear that the discussion isn’t sanctioned by LH at large).

@littleviolette Why is this such a difficult decision? You can do it in 5 min.

Haha,
So a Political Swingers Club for LH’s :winking_face_with_tongue:

I’ve often thought a radio button on a deal check would be great idea. That way the OP can state up front if they are looking for a good deal or are trying to make the best deal out of an otherwise unhackable vehicle.

That leads to yet another wiki going down the rabbit hole really trying to explain that spending $33,000 to lease a $52,000 vehicle isn’t a hack.
