I see what you’re saying. Have to see them back to back and you’ll see what I mean. They were near each other at a car show so just sharing my impression. As you know, a cx9 and palluride are dimensionally similar yet totally different sizes in real life.
I’m thinking the guy either owns or runs that neighborhood.

This may be a case of the much smaller wheelbase on the crv makes the overhangs larger, so the crv visually feels bulkier, despite being smaller. Add in that its narrower and slightly taller and you get a more top heavy appearance which can feel bulkier.
Local body shop. Well established. Always see some rare exotic in front of their office.
Maybe it’s the only way to get in and out.

When a color blind person orders what in a normal environment would be saleproof car (looking at you, green/green/green 911 cab buyers)…

Really??? The green is way to iridescent for me, but I actually don’t mind the interior colors at all. I like the subdued, “matte”-ish grey and the yellow accents.
“So, are we going with the green or the blue?”
“Yes!”
