A few years back Paragon got sued for “jamming” useless service plans and credit repair services into deals like this. I’m guessing that they’ve moved onto auto insurance as their next grift?
Though I gave the insurance partner my bank details, I have not signed anything (with them or Paragon). She told me she’d be sending me something to e-sign once I finalized with Paragon.
They’ve started texting me today. Time to struggle against my raised-in-minnesota tendency to be polite to everyone!
(By which I mean, ghosting is always a challenge for me).
It’s easy… go into your phone and block the number.
These people are not friendly folk just trying to help you out. They’re not giving you an okay deal with a little markup in there to make a few bucks. They’re screwing you. Hard.
These people don’t deserve any of your respect or kindness. Save it for folks who do. Send them a single “I am not interested. Make no further attempt to contact me” text, then block their emails and phone numbers.
When I sold cars, we would regularly tell people with cad credit they needed to get an insurance QUOTE before they moved forward because insurance rates here are so bad that buyers with bad credit would often find their car not and their insurance premiums are around the same amount, putting the purchase of a car outside their budgetary reach. This is good advice for the credit-challenged. Telling you to get insurance on a car you don’t own is just this side of criminal. Even if they weren’t trying to get several thousand dollars of addenda out of you, this would be enough of a red flag for me to walk away.
“hey Im not interested anymore. Thanks for your time. Im moving in a different direction and I’d appreciate if you don’t contact me anymore.”
That’s not gonna work with pushy salespeople and polite customers who can’t say no.
Just block all their numbers and send all their email to spam.
Ghosting is more polite than saying, “You guys are scummy turds who are doing totally shady sh*t that is again bordering on the illegal.”
So, can anyone recommend an alternate Honda dealer in the “will deliver to Brooklyn” area for me to try? Have broken off the Paragon deal.
Dude stay away from Paragon. They’re gross. Try Honda of Tenafly or Mahwah or Nanuet. We got a CRV from Mahwah and Nanuet in the last couple years. Both solid dealerships.
As soon as I read this and got to “Paragon” I stopped reading. Steer clear of them. They will rape you. Period.
@gc2a. I found Nanuet decent but you have to work them really hard if you want to target them. They’re not so straight forward.
No experience with Tenafly but I haven’t heard good things about them either.
It’s been awhile since I shopped a Honda but remember New Rochelle being aggressive on pricing.
Really? I worked with Greg the SM at Nanuet and got great numbers in minutes. Seemed like an easy, honest guy. Same with Mahwah
Before you reach out to other dealers figure out what it should cost first and try to improve your credit scores. Never take any add ons and maybe consider less desirable brand that has more negotiation room like Nissan.
Don’t have experience with Mawah but heard good things about them as well.
I actually knew the Finance Manager of Mahwah. Used to work out at my gym and would chat with him daily. Told me anytime I was ready to lease that I would get cheapest deal haha…
That was about 2yrs ago. Haven’t had a Honda in since 2016
OP, keep shopping and pls stay away from NYC Honda dealers.
I’ve gotten 2 good deals from Bay Ridge Honda for friends but that was years ago. They also ripped off my boss badly on a Honda Fit though because he doesn’t understand leasing and went by himself.
There are a ton of brokers in Brooklyn that will be able to help you, I just assume it’s against the rules to recommend specific brokers that are not LH members on here.
Got basically bait&switched there a while ago… aggressively priced Touring turned out to be an EXL
Good to know , I remember them being aggressive with quotes over emails and giving detailed pricing. Never stepped foot in their doors.
Sucks that they pulled bait and switch . Will know to steer clear , thanks.
Can always do Hamilton Honda too. Leased my 8th gen Accord from them back in the day. Not sure how they are now… if I remember it was $1700 DAS and $150 a month on a 2012 Accord LX Base. 36/12.
