Financing a Nissan GTR

Hi all,

I just left a dealership inquiring about a 2012 Nissan GTR. I’ve never financed, I’ve always leased so it felt like a different ball game in there. The car is listed for $59,988. They got the car off a trade. Can someone advise to how I should approach negotiating on a car like this? Is there a huge discount that I could get off of pre owned cars, or is there only 1-2k to be played with?

Used cars are different animal, you can only compare the price with others on the market. $60k seems like allot to pay for an 8 year old car, but they are $110k plus new. Something like that you would want low miles and ALL the service history and an inspection to make sure it wasn’t crashed, DON’T trust carfax for that.

The cars at 40k miles with 3 previous owners so I’d definitely want a thorough check. When you say inspection, how would I get the car inspected? Do I hire a mechanic to come with me to take a look at it?

You tell the dealer you want to do a pre purchase inspection and take it to a mechanic that is knowledgeable of gtrs to have it done. Will probably cost you $100 or so.

If the dealer won’t allow for it, walk away.

I’d have an independent shop that knows those kind of cars look at it.

Didn’t know this was an option, definitely will do so. Thanks

Don’t think of it as an option. Think of it as a non-negotiable. The only dealer that would refuse you doing this would be a dealer that knows there is something wrong with the vehicle.

Really appreciate this, I would’ve just had a buddy give it a quick look but knowing this will help a lot. Appreciate the info.

A friend of mine just bought a used R8 the dealer was extremely helpful with a third party inspection and expected it. I would also recommend a third party warranty, these cars are very expensive to fix. And on the R8 it was only around 2K for 3 years.

Is the additional warranty obtained through the same brand dealership or is it a third party?

There are several options for third party however I recommend a manufacturers warranty if it is a possibility. He actually bought a third party one from the dealer and then found out Audi offers one and bought that and cancelled the third party one. I would ask Nissan if they offer one.

I would highly suggest researching the forum below and signing up.

Just ask for 4 k off. Tell the dealer take it or leave it. This is the time they want to wheel and deal.

What are you basing this off of?

Find out what the value on KBB and let me know.

He needs a proper PPI and maintenance records.

Agree on the need for a PPI but someone knowledgeable about very niche cars is going to charge a lot more if he spends the appropriate time.

Assume 3+ hours if he’s going to be really thorough including a compression test on all 6 cylinders

Fair enough

Find out what the msrp was also when new. AFAIK these cars were NOT 100k cars back then new. Also I heard the trannys are a fortune to fix. Do your due diligence.

PPI is usually only a few hundred dollars. A lot cheaper than buying Something that needs work.
