Feedback on Toyota BZ4X Lease in Colorado

Hello LeaseHackr Community!

I’m interested in leasing a Toyota BZ4X for commuting to a new job. I know the BZ4X range sucks, but I’ll be able to charge at home and the office, so it will be less of a burden for me. I’ve had several Prii so the BZ4X seems like a electrified version with good creature comforts.

My requirements for the lease were no $$$ down and a 15,000 year mileage allowance. Here is the quote I received:

The leasing factor seems ridiculously low, but the monthly payments are higher than expected. I would appreciate any help in evaluating this proposal.

Thank You!

You’re barking up the wrong tree. Literally ever other EV is a better value this month.

Hey Max_G!

Thanks for the honest feedback. I’ve been a Toyota fanboy for most of my life, and this is my first EV, so it’s hard for me to consider other brands.

With my requirements of no money down, 15,000 miles per year, and obviously keeping the payment as low as possible, what would be your recommendations for me in Colorado? Your advice would be very appreciated!

This is a terrible deal. Text me. Shouldnt be over 400. 1k down. Tax tags all dealer broker bank fees and first month included.

You’re getting quoted limited pricing for an xle.

This also probably includes the $5k Colorado rebate, Toyota was including them in the lease cash upfront (you can let the dealer claim it with hour tax return) so it is even worse than you think.

OP you can get a Nissan Ariya or VW ID4 or Hyundai Ioniq5 for a better price and they are all better EVs than this fax machine…

The main draw to Toyota (at least for us) was trouble-free longevity. We’ve owned both a Prius and a Lexus RX over several years each, and they were bullet proof.

But when we looked for an EV lease for my 'Yota-loving spouse, we prioritized lease value (at the time, that was Blazer EV), because we were giving the car back in 24 months.

Pretend you’re walking into Target to pick out a microwave you’ll use to reheat pizza for 2-3 years, before donating it to a local charity.

You wouldn’t make the same appliance decision as if you were remodeling the kitchen in your forever home.

(For one thing, you wouldn’t even go to Target for that.)

You can buy a lightly used Busy Forks with many years of EV warranty left for a just a bit more than what you would be paying to rent one.

At 15,000 miles per year, you might give a thought to just buying one if you have your heart set on it.

Look at the Ariya, EV6, Blazer or Equinox.

My dealer in Colorado makes the buyer do the extra rebate with their taxes. So I’m not sure if that’s all dealers in the state or they just don’t want to do the extra paperwork. But it is available. My price doesn’t include it either.

I wouldn’t take a BZ4X if you put a minus sign in front of the payments shown on that worksheet.

I’ve recommended Toyota products before, when they’re the best fit for the need. That’s not the case here.

Test drive Ariya, Equinox/Prologue and/or Kona/Ioniq.

Take the plunge and you’ll be fine. There’s no reason to ball-and-chain yourself to one faceless corporation for the rest of your life when it comes to leases.

Or lease to capture the extra incentives and immediately buy out one of Toyota’s PHEVs for long term ownership

When these were sub 200 a month, they were worth it. But this is not the case here. You can get two Ariyas, Ioniqs or Equinoxes for this price.

Maybe three with Colorado kicking in an additional $5,350 rebate.

i remember when these were going for nothing

They probably still are, OP’s offer is terrible. They are giving under 3% dealer discount (1.5% effective once the dealer handling is factored in). Pretty sure 10% or more dealer discount should be available on aged units with some effort…

I mean you could buy a used one under 20k now: https://www.cars.com/shopping/results/?makes[]=toyota&maximum_distance=all&models[]=toyota-bz4x&sort=list_price&stock_type=used&zip=02495#vehicle-card-be426af5-c39b-4cd1-a250-8afbab041e47

Or basically all of your payments on that quote and you actually own it.

Thanks for the reply! I believe the Toyota “rebate” of $16,250 includes the Federal/State incentives.

Also, thanks for the suggestions. I’m also looking at the Chevy EVs. I’m still dumbfounded that Toyota is so far behind in the EV space after their success with hybrids. I know several manufacturers are pivoting to EREVs but that won’t happen for a couple of years.

Those are great points, thanks for the reply. I have brand tunnel vision, and you are practical. I started as a Toyota tech 40 years ago and owned many bullet-proof models, so it’s difficult to separate my experience.

I would not buy an EV now so your appliance analogy is perfect!
