visited 1st BMW dealer today in metro Detroit to look at a 2018 330i xdrive loaner. I showed the dealer LH examples of Selling Prices 17-22% off MSRP (before rebates). Best they would offer is 10% off; explanation being that Detroit is in a different market than the examples I showed him in CA, NY, NJ and there is no program to support 17-22% off in the metro Detroit area
What has been the experience of other Leasehackr’s in the Detroit or surrounding region for discounts off 2018 3 Series loaners? All feedback welcome.
I am in Metro Detroit. Last month I got 26% off on a loaner. They had 15% to 20% off on 3, 5, and 7 series loaners without any negotiation. Which dealer you are talking to?
What did you end up paying for your 7 series? I was just in Rochester Hills MB dealer. Usually when you walk into a dealership sales people pounce on you. Apparently I don’t look like MB material.
Word to the wise, showing a dealer samples from this forum is a great way to get shown the door. Negotiate your deal using the information you learn here - not as a “give me this deal” thing.
not a fan of ernhard on the bmw side, +1 for rochester hills bmw, however rochester hills mb flat out sucks, bloomfield hills over them in a heartbeat.
I’m a firm believer in getting multiple quotes, don’t write a dealer because they gave you bad quote last time you bought a car. Sometimes it just comes down to who has a car and how desperate they are, regardless of what they did in the past. I’ve had dealers give me a smoking deal, then can’t even get them to respond the next deal. Or one dealer quoted me something terrible a couple months ago, but then end of year they want to blow something out. There’s no rhyme or reason to any of it. Shop ALL of them
True. They are different but they had 15-20% off on all their loaners even 3 series. Might not be able to get to 26% but OP was getting much less discount at FH dealer.
The point of showing the LH examples was to show the market price for that vehicle. Allegedly, the Detroit market is different, or maybe it’s just that dealer based on 2 comments so far.
Some dealers do notoriously give less discount though, but like you said every situation is different, however some dealers can get away with letting a car sit for just a little bit longer before uniformed buyer walks through the door because the dealership is in a very wealthy area or people just love that particular manufacturer. I do agree with you for the most part.
Erhard BMW Farmington hills is a joke, so is Ann Arbor.
From what I’ve experienced, you won’t find any deals in Michigan.
I would recommend trying BMW of Toledo, which is not far away. I received an email from them saying they are offering 18% off before incentives on 3 series loaners. But they only have few vehicles left so you should be prompt.
Also, try Chicago area as well. I picked up a 330i loaner MSRP ~56k for $430 monthly with 2.1K DAS (tax upfront) from BMW of Barrington. Not the best, but considering all the options it has, I am happy with it.
Erhard is indeed terrible and a waste of time. I’ve found that pretty much every luxury dealer in the Novi and Ann Arbor areas are totally unwilling to negotiate. I have postulated and have been told by dealer friends that it’s due to the large number of expats and companies who lease without much negotiating. They’re rarely hungry for sales and have much higher standards than ‘hackr deals’.
In the past I’ve gotten some decent quotes from Grand Blanc BMW, but it was awhile ago. I have also heard good things about going to NW Ohio but I’ve never tried that. Good luck!
On the MB side, St Clair shores MB did serve the best deal in the area for my dads GLE. They are a pretty small operation… not sure if that helps or hinders a good deal.
