Hi, my cousin wants to buy put my Jeep lease through CCAP at end of lease in Illinois. He’s willing to pay outright in cash if that makes it easier. Is there a way to do it directly without having to pay taxes twice? I spoke to a dealer on the phone and they said we could , and then wasted an hour of our time in person before telling us it would be 9k more
so appreciate any advice you can give! Also, just to confirm: does the buyout price that CCAP gives include tax? If not, if I just send them that amount and they send the title can I just take it to a currency exchange and switch it over to his name instead of mine? Thanks!
That’s pure crap. Below is an excerpt from a CCAP lease agreement. You should be able to calculate your buyout at lease end.

Don’t know which fees are taxable and non-taxable in IL. I do know that the residual and POF is taxable. So, best case scenario…
Buyout = (1 + t) (RV + POF) + dealer doc/admin fees + misc. Gov Fees
t = sales tax rate
RV = Residual Value
POF = Purchase Option Fee
The dealer doc/admin fee should be within reason ($250 - $400?), not $9000!
Contact another Jeep dealer and ask if they would do a third-party buyout and what their doc/admin fee would be to cover transaction costs.
I know what it would be if I buy it out but was asking about him. Does CCAP allow third party buyout? Would it be the same buyout as me?
Thanks
That appears to be the case. Look at the highlighted portion of the CCAP excerpt in my post above where it references third party. Although it wasn’t a CCAP lease, I took a neighbor to a GM dealership where they purchased my leased vehicle at lease end. The dealer charged a $350 transaction fee. The car was purchased for the residual plus PO fee plus tax. This is exactly what I would have paid. I did call GM Financial beforehand for details. Suggest you do the same by calling CCAP. Be sure you get someone that knows what they’re talking about which isn’t always an easy thing to do. Incompetence in the workplace in running rampant in America the Great. However, y/our lease agreement is the final authority.
I feel like there was a weird IL rule on lease buyouts. Search the forum and you will see.
@volvo2 tell CCAP to email you the buyout PDF. That will have a breakdown.
CCAP didn’t have different dealer buyouts back then unless it changed. You can offer $500-1000 to a dealer to buy it and sell it to your cousin. That would be the ideal scenario. You won’t pay taxes but your cousin will.
