I drove one today for the first time, along with a Mach-E, at a drive event and I have to say I was pretty impressed with both of them. I suspect low expectations played a role, but the Lightning hid its size/weight fairly well and the acceleration was pretty decent for something that size. I am not a buyer for either one of them, but they were better than I thought they would be.
Got my eye on a Lariat ER locally at
Msrp 81580
Discount 2000
Rebate 7500
Sale price 72080
Qualifies for ev credit too so net is under $65k
At that price it’s a great value
How could it qualify for EV credit? I think MSRP have to <80k
I think the listed MSRP includes delivery, which IRS doesn’t count, so actual MSRP is under 80K.
That doesn’t sound like a very good discount at all considering how poorly these have sold since launch.
That’s the best discount I’ve seen to date. Can you beat that?
I haven’t been looking so I wouldn’t know. Just surprised it’s so little towards the end of year on poor selling vehicle. Is it a 2024?
The net discount is $16,080 if you’re income is $150k single/$300k married
That’s not good?
Yay for rebates and tax credits. That part is awesome.
It was the 2% off of msrp that raise my eyebrow.
The potential maximum net discount, given a known deal on a Lariat SR, is closer to $23K right now. I would think the same should be achievable with an ER.
I think around $55k if you qualify for everything for a Lariat ER is a great deal based on that being essentially Tacoma TRD Pro money. Of course, they could turn around and drop the price $10k next week, but that is my assessment right now based on my recent test drive.
The problem is the next model year will have heat pump, to address cold weather performance, and the NACS adapter, for compatibility with Tesla charging. Plus, starting next year the tax credit becomes POS and the rumor is this could open up creative way to qualify for this who may not have under this years system. My concern is all these factors will drive down the value of the pre-24’s in the secondary market, which I think why Ford is trying to move them out aggressively before releasing a clearly superior refresh.
When will the ‘24s be out? Has that been announced?
Are you positive of that? I don’t see that announced, all I could find is that the new Flash trim will still need an adapter.
Although you are losing a second charger limiting the charge from 19 to 11 or something like that, don’t remember the exact numbers with decimal points.
I don’t know if 24 is superior, or if Flash trim just creating an in-between XLT and Lariat plus other cost cutting measures.
This is what was announced w/ regards to NACS support:
- Ford reaches deal with Tesla to allow Ford EV owners to use the Supercharger network in the US and Canada starting in 2024.
- Ford vehicles will require a software update and a connector adapter to use Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS).
- Starting in 2025, Ford EVs will feature a built-in Tesla charging socket, removing the need for a hardware adapter.
Perhaps more accurately I should have said the 2024’s will be the first to gain access to the Tesla S/C network via a software upgrade and adapter. With regards to heat pump;
Wouldn’t all.Lightnings have access to SCs with an adaptor?
I think it’s the 25s that will have the port native.
And what happened to the different EV truck Ford was working on?
I would love a drive-train like this in a mid-size pickup
Datapoint, brother’s friend in NJ picked up a Lariat, $83k sticker IIRC for $65k… before the $7,500 Fed.
83K sticker doesn’t qualify for rebates even with destination removed. Your brother’s friend is going to have a really unpleasant time during tax season.
Ford said that all Lightnings going back to '22 MY will get the update and adapter, so not a '24 thing
For Lariat and Platinum for '24 the 2nd onboard charger is removed
Flash trim is literally a trim, nothing new there
So '24 vs '23 boils down to heatpump in the former, faster charging in the latter
The only announced change that makes '24 different is that by some point later in '24 they willl switch to LFP batteries, but I’m pretty sure the date of that depends on how quickly they can unload the current ones.
I’m 90% convinced that Ford is going to slowly discontinue the Lightning and their EV is going to be whatever/whenver the T3 is supposed to show up. But who knows what they are thinking at this point as they are clearly butchering the whole EV release.
