Yes . In the end I actually got almost 7 months extension without ordering a new BMW . If you have a good enough reason they’ll be very helpful and understanding. Started with the standard two months , then an additional month . Then additional 3 months. Then they allowed me to go past 6 months without penalty , just had to pay the daily rate for the lease ( monthly lease payment / 30 x days I kept the car into the 7th month ) . I had very good reasons for needing an extension , and I’m very appreciative for the way BMWFS handled everything . So yes , they are able to do it if they really want to allow you to extend .
Can you buyout your lease by dealing directly with BMW FS instead of going through a dealership to process a buyout just to have them add bogus fees that jacks up buyout price?
Would you please elaborate? How do you get 6 months from BMW exactly?
Unless you’re in a state where BMWFS requires you to go through a dealer (i.e. FL), you can buyout your lease directly with BMWFS - no dealer involvement required
what’s a good reason? I am already in that extension period, and would love to get extension past 2 months without a new BMW order. I think you need to put a deposit down for a new order to get a 6 months extension. (CA state). Not sure if that BMW order deposit is refundable or not in case you change your mind for no reason.
Do you need just an order or an actual build allocation?
That’s been a little more flexible as of late with delays and or allocations getting pushed back in status.
So I guess I am out of luck then since I’m from Florida I did call them a few days ago and the person I spoke to said I could deal with them directly.
Why does Florida require going through the dealer to buy out a lease? Would you know?
Thank you!
The dealership trade group crafted legislation, then made enough in campaign donations to members of the FL legislature to pass that legislation. Which in the end is BS and harms consumers.
If the captive ( in this case BMWFS ) holds a dealer license in the state then I believe the “going to the dealership” step can be avoided. It’s rare we see that option though on here.
Does BMW require you to go through a dealer in FL? They used to be one of the manufacturers that didn’t.
I was in the process of closing on a house, asked if it was possible to extend lease so I didn´t have to take out a new lease before closing, new credit lines while under escrow is a big no no… BMWFS was very nice about it, even though there were under no obligation to give me any extension past 2 months.
If they’re saying they (BMWFS) can do it, then go for it!
Thanks very much for all the helpful feedback!
I had this same experience - got 5 months out of BMW due to delays on closing on new house build in 2019 without needing a replacement car on order but would consider this the exception vs. norm. Originally only thought I needed 2 months but called in for an extra month at a time and they made the exceptions along the way. Figured it helped that I had been leasing or financing various cars through them for 15+ years. In my defense, I did lease a new X5 the day after we closed on the house, so I kept my word.
Hi there. Thank you so much for this info. Hopefully this will be helpful for me. Can I ask you, in confidence of course, if you wouldn’t mind sharing, what was the very good reason for needing an extension? If you’d prefer to discuss in a phone call, please feel free (516) 659-8642. I’m David. Thank you so much again. Greatly appreciated!
Required to go thru dealer only if you want to finance with BMW FS, but you can just send BMW payment and they send you the title, so yes, you can buy directly from BMW in FL
In CA, what else can I do to extend my BMW past 2 months extension. Someone said I can order a new BMW but I am not sure if that’s what I want, I might just go with a used car this time.
Can someone PM me any other method to extend my lease (beyond the 2 months) that ends soon. I am in CA.
Order a car they will extend it we just did it.
I am not really sure what I want right now and if it’s ok to cancel the order after few weeks if I decide on something else. If one cancels, will my lease be cancelled at the same time?
