Extend BMW Lease

I have BMW 330e that I really like. It drives great, I like the size, and the electric range is sufficient for 80% of my normal driving days.

Its lease is up in October, and I went to the BMW dealer this weekend. They were pushing me hard on an i4, as the 330e has been discontinued for 2025. The i4 is a fine car, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as my 330e (the i4 is a bit bigger, has a little less power, and doesn’t look as nice).

So, I’m looking at paying the same or a bit more for a car I like less. There’s nothing I see on the market now that I like more than my 330e, but I don’t want to buy the car, as I don’t want to have to think about long term disposition and servicing it as things start to go wrong.

Is there a way to extend my lease for 1-3 years while I watch for something better to come along? I think when BMW makes an all-electric 3 Series I’ll be pretty interested.

Not sure if it’s changed in the past few years, but BMW used to only let you extend by 2 months. It may have been longer if you had another BMW on order being built, but it was 2 months max back in 2021.

Anyone know if there are independent leasing companies that will pick up the car in this situation and write a new lease?

I see you’re in NorCal, but these SoCal dealers have a few '24 330e models available for you.

You should be able to get a short extension, a bit longer if you have an order for a new BMW.

The warranty is the same on a lease as it would have been if you’d originally purchased the car.

It’s going to run out based on elapsed time or mileage, whichever occurs first.

No but you can buy the car and extend the warranty until the 6th or 7th year since its original in-service date.

How much is the buyout versus the cost to lease a 2024 330e? My guess is you can get a pretty steep discount of the 330e. Might be able to get out of existing lease a few months early if there is any equity in the current 330e.
