Exotic car ownership downsides

Think it’s really lame when people are scared to drive the car because of a resale value. Cars are meant to be driven not kept in a garage. Look at it as a consumption item rather than an investment (seeing as vast majority are not investments and require creative mental math to be viewed as such).

It’s sad on rennlist reading people with gt cars talking about how they drive it like 2000 miles a year. Not sure you can really enjoy the car and only want to drive it that much , just a shame.

I do not know if you can consider a 2002 Ferrari 360 an “exotic” considering that I bought it for about the same as a loaded XC60 B6 BUT, driving it on a nice day is a 10/10 experience. I am well aware that a bmw340 is MUCH faster but taking it down port with the top down is a lot of fun. I have been approached mostly by kids who are maybe 7-12 years old with their parents asking about it. I have however been asked MULTIPLE times at red lights “Whats the retail on one of those?” to which there is only one response, “More than you can afford pal, Ferrari!”

I am also on the older end. I’ve had a couple 03/04 cobras a 08 gt500 and I am over the top end speed thing. Prior to this I had a 124 spider that I adored. Manual drop top and fun. The 360 is one of my dream cars and I am really going to miss it. The new owner is actually picking it up tonight

I would agree. There is much more to a great driving experience than simply having the “fastest” car on the road.

Any photos of the 360? :face_holding_back_tears:

I am actually leaving work a bit early to do one last quickphoto shoot. Its all cleaned up for its new owner!

lot of good info in this thread on practicality of owning a sports/super car.
in america, you will rarely find good public roads to let it rip without going to jail.

unless you get a porsche with a giant wing (all these GT variants…) no one will even look at you or notice it. too many cars around for anyone to go gaga over a porsche.

my fear is others like people said. idiots who open doors in parking lots without looking. idiots in traffic who are distracted and ready to rear end you.

then the parking lots. everything seems to be build for trucks. i have to remember which places i can take it to. have to street view new places to see if grade is steep.

i do take my car to costco/home depot etc and that’s why i love porsches. you can track a turbo and take it to home depot in the same trip all without getting too much attention.

owning a super car is a juggling act between practicality (very little) to maintenance cost (a lot) to maintaining resale value (the irony of owning a car without being able to drive it)…

TBH, I’d also add to your list that people may view you as a selfish, egotistical asswipe who is compensating for lack of other… attributes. I live in a very affluent neighborhood and commonly see people driving exotics wayyyyy too fast down local streets with kids playing. Not cool.

But I can tell from your thoughtfulness that this is not you, so if this gives you happiness and you don’t hurt anyone, go for it.
