Excess mileages on Mercedes EV Lease

To all the pros,

What do you do when you are going to have excess mileages on the lease? Are you allowed to pre-purchase prior to lease end, or are you going to just pay the excess miles on return? Which would be the most cost-effective option to pay for excess miles? I am estimating to have ~20,000 excess miles (@$0.25/mile) by lease end for my EQE SUV. I’m just exploring options before the lease end next year and whether I should lease another car to drive rather than keep driving the EQE. TIA

Pay or see if they have a pull ahead and get your next lease early

Look into the pull ahead program. Sometimes MB will let you get out of your lease 6 months early and waive those payments if you get into a new car.

I was about 1k miles in excess of my 23 EQS back in Sept 24 with 6 months left to go. I was able to get into a new 24 EQS, waive those 6 payments, get a $5000 incentive, along with a $500 damage waiver (or $1000). I pay $280/mon so needless to say it was a big win all around. The 24 months of new payments comes out to be cheaper than the 6 months of lease payments and excess mileage I would’ve used.

I’m aware of the pull ahead program, and I’m only 1/2 way thru my lease. So you DID pay for the excess mileage no matter what? I read somewhere on this group before that you can pre-purchase excess mileages prior to lease end for a discount rate. Is it still accurate?

I’m in the same boat as you with my EQE lease. I’m 16 months out from the end of my term and projecting I’ll be 10,000 to 12,000 miles over.

We need a second car anyway, so I’ve been thinking about grabbing a cheap lease (under $300/mo) for a vehicle like the Optiq or Blazer to absorb some of the daily driving and keep the EQE’s mileage down.

My big question is about the endgame. I’m really hoping to take advantage of an MB pull-ahead program to get into a new, but hopefully much cheaper, MB.

My plan is to do pull ahead when I qualify, plus all other possible rebates to get into an EQS SUV for my wife. I just want to know whether I should purchase the excess miles at a discount, or I should keep driving until lease end and see how I can negotiate into a new lease.

I haven’t seen an option to pre-purchase excess miles either on the app or on MBF’s site. Try calling MBF and see if they’ll let you buy miles. I know BMW lets you but not seen MB provide this option.

You cannot pre-purchase miles from MB from what I’m aware. I tried.

Be careful as well. The agents in MB First Class, which is the department that handles lease-end stuff, is stuck up and incompetent. It’s hard enough getting someone from that department to speak to you and when they do, they’re fairly unhelpful.

They did not waive any damage or excess mileage charges for me, so to answer your question, yes, I paid for that.

Thanks a lot for the info. I’ll call to see if they allow me to pre-purchase. If not, I’ll just drive the car until pull-ahead kicks in then negotiate into a new deal.

I did read his post. Did you?

Do you know what is discount rate for purchase additional miles during the lease for BMW iX? TIA

I don’t know for sure but remember reading somewhere that BMW offers a 10% discount for purchasing additional mile prior to lease end.

Thank you for the info. I’m estimating an iX lease and just want to know whether I should get 12000/15000 miles, or get 7500/10000 miles and pay excess later. Per the calculator, it looks like i would save couple $ if I get 12000/15000 miles at the beginning. Any thoughts?

It comes down to how confident you are that you will use up the 12k or 15k miles. As you know, you don’t get any credit back for unused miles. My 2 cents would be to lease for what you know you will absolutely use and budget for any anticipated overage. You can treat the additional $ you would pay for overage vs lease rate as insurance.

How many miles do you typically drive per year now?

Use that as your guide. The last thing you want to do is worry about how many miles you are putting on your vehicle knowing you will have to pay for them at the end.

FROM BMW website:

BMW Mileage Adjustment Program.

With the Mileage Adjustment Program (MAP), you can purchase additional miles at a discounted rate, right up until the day before you turn in your vehicle.

Thanks for the input.

I put 17k on 1st year of my lease and it’s 36/7500. But I’m using the car 100% of the time and did 3 road trips LA-LAS. If I lease an iX, I probably drive less given I now have 2 cars. I may still go with 10k/12k as daily commute.

I forgot to ask. Can you pay the excess miles at return by credit card?

To all the pros,

I am setting up this deal and need your input if this is feasible given unit has been on the lot for so long and 2026 MY is already out there. Is a 17% discount on MSRP for Socal too much to ask? TIA. Much appreciated for all the thoughts.
