EV with Hands Free Driving

,

My wife is honestly driving me nuts with trying to find her a new car, but she has finally giving me some parameters. We’re looking for an EV SUV that has some form of hands free driving. We are looking at the Tesla Model Y and Chevy Equinox EV (w/Supercruise). Are there other recommendations?

This is our first lease in a long time here in PA and I honestly hate the car negotiating process, which is a big plus for Tesla. But if we can find something that fits her needs (24mo/12-15k miles) for less, it will be a viable option.

Ariya Platinum or Kia EV9 are in my list. Consumer Report posted detail comparison not long ago. Worth the read for Apple to Apple comparisons.

What your wife wants is a full time chauffeur :stuck_out_tongue:

Super cruise is really good.

Teslas lease poorly, although they have really good FSD.

Thanks I took a look at those, but their self driving / driving assist just doesn’t seem to be up to par. My current car is a Hyundai Santa Fe and the lane centering with ACC is good, but nowhere near Supercruise and Tesla FSD.

When you say “lease poorly”, do you mean the monthly cost is higher than an equivalent vehicle?

Yes. Many other cars with similar price tags lease for better monthly.

Look up the number of near crashes averted by Tesla drivers taking control from FSD at the last minute.

Mustang Mach-E with BlueCruise?

Keep in mind Supercruise is only on pre-mapped highways.

Wait hold on. Some form of hands free driving is really vague.

To be clear there is NO vehicle for consumers yet that is hands free driving. They all require hands on wheels and driver attention. For good reason. They are unreliable as f*** and something as simple as sun on the camera can fool it.

None of the cars have all the sensors required for autonomous driving. Only cars outfitted with multiple sensors like waymo etc can reliably do that. Tesla started removing LiDAR from their cars and that hasn’t helped.

Also, it really depends on the fidelity of mapping in your area and clarity of lane markings. Forget about these cars when there is slush on the road from salt and snow.

Please don’t get a car thinking you can multitask

BMW DAPP is great for commutes where you want to post on LH but driving is getting in the way.

Lol yes, I live to post on LH My last bmw (loved that diesel), would just pingpong between the lanes

yes understood. Every weekend in the summer we have a 6hr drive each way. The autonomy we increased to with lane centering and ACC has been life changing. Just looking at the next step, which is referred to as Hands Free, because it monitors your eyes. It’s at least enough to rest your arms occasionally and grab a drink from a bottle of water.

Supercruise and FSD are handsfree

Just received a text from a somewhat local dealer in PA for a 2024 Equinox EV
RS AWD, $50,795MSRP, 24mo/15K mi for $274/mo with taxes and fees included, along with my 2014 Malibu (110K mi) trade in. Seems fair?

Everything before this line was fair. Need to know how much they’re giving you on your trade and what it’s worth compared to others.

Tesla Y would be your best bet… look into their inventory discounted units on the website, some are close to $3700 in my area at least. You could be in with $3300 DAS and roughly $350/mo with taxes included. Autopilot should be enough for most needs or splurge $99/mo for FSD, if you stay focused and use sunglasses FSD works great without touching the wheel :call_me_hand:

KBB is like 4500, Chevy is offering 3400.
