EV prepaid maintenance plans for leases - worth it or scare tactic?

Hi all, new to leasing but not EVs. I don’t buy plans for EVs anyway since they’re so low maintenance, but was told that you have to take leased cars in for scheduled maintenance due to the lease contract stipulations. I bought (at a very low price). Can other hackers weigh in on this?

It is the same as everything else. Find out how much the normal maintenance is and how much the prepaid maintenance is. If the prepaid is less, go with that. If not, then pay as you go.

It is true that you have to do the maintenance as per the lease? Makes sense but just wanted to double check

If the service light comes on during the lease, you are responsible for it.

Yeah I have no idea if that’s in fine print somewhere. However, since it’s an EV if the light does come on, I would def take it to a dealer and not a random auto shop.

I don’t know what EV you got but this is what a dealership by me says is included for ID4 10k and 30k maintenance. I don’t know what a dealership charges for this but I wouldn’t hesitate to have it done at an independent shop. Not a whole lot involved.

Maybe the 20k maintenance should be done at a dealership although even that doesn’t seem to be anything special.

If it were me, I’d just go to an independent shop for regular maintenance and go to dealership for any other fixes, which will be under warranty.

It’s an Audi. The care plan was actually pretty cheap I thought (single digit dollar amt monthly), but also wanted to know based on principle.

Just returned the i3 and dealer had the maintenance past due on their checklist. If past due, it is a $750 charge. So dont forget to reset it if you dont get your BMW serviced .

Also anyone have experience with taking EV’s to independent shops rather than the dealer?

That’s a pretty comical list there on a car with almost no moving parts

Guess the long term plan for dealer service business is phantom service check recommendations for EVs
