EV rant: tldr ; give me my damn spare donut.
Read this long post. It could happen to you!
Ariya got flat while on 40 mile trip. I realized after looking for spare and google that Nissan replaced donut in Ariya with “CareFree EV” experience, which is roadside insurance that covers tows and tire replacements coverage. I initiated tow call from App. an hour later AAA arrived and tow destination only limited to Nissan dealership. I guess… sent it to dealership (it is Sunday).
Now I have two young kids from back seat, waiting for uber ride to go back home from aborted trip, uber drivers refused car improper carseats? Now I am stranded in Texas heat, at gas station with kids and their car seat. Called family member to give me ride. Arrived backed home with trip aborted trip 5 hours later exhausted.
Its Monday morning and I get call from dealer. $100 please. Why? Yes Ariya has Nissan warranty but it does not fully cover the cost of OEM tire replacement? why are you replacing flat tire? oh , it is not safe to repair. OK, give me my flat tire back, No, sorry we need to keep it for insurance purposes.
… How much are you charging for tire? $350 for tire that is $199 at Discount Tire? You can tow it to discount tire at your expense
OK just replace the damm tire and give me my car back.
I get 2nd call. Sorry we dont stock OEM tire, we have to order. Aren’t you the OEM dealer? give me loaner then. No we do not offer loaner. Oh, wait , I just realize it will take 3 days for the tire. Sorry no loaner.
… 
3 days later. tire is not here.
5th day. Your car is ready. I do not wish to speak or talk to anyone take payment over the phone. We charge 3% CC fee. WTF
I would have avoided this whole episode if Nissan had included donut. Apparently this is how all EV models are going. Terrible experience.
How could I have avoided ? by not driving ?
