End of lease - Infiniti - Damage dings?

2 weeks to go till end of lease on my Q50, and someone backs into the car! Cracked the front bumper and pulled it off one of the retaining tabs. Quick quote from collision repair place says replace bumper, have to blend paint, $1485 out of pocket. Also they couldn’t even get the work done till day after grace period on lease return is over :(.

How badly does Infiniti ding in costs for repairs you don’t / can’t get done prior to return? Anyone know if there’s a “keep the car longer to get repairs done under insurance” thing?

I don’t want to buy the car but at a certain point the fees and damage $ prob add up to making buying it the better way to go argh

Schedule the preinspection right away but I would bet that any deductions would be less than fixing it on your own.

Also if you need more time, you can extend the lease by a month by asking IFS.

Wish I could extend it, already extended it beyond the max already. Which would have been fine except for this stupid dmg.

You think the “charge” from IFS for the damage will prob be less than paying out of my pocket to fix, so just leave it alone?

Claim a hit and run, which technically it was. Then either fix it through insurance or use the insurance payout to pay IFS.

I’m saying, instead of trying to guess, just get the inspection done so that you can make an informed decision. It probably boils down to either a small deduction, or a large enough one that you will choose to repair through insurance (depending on your deductible).

Personally, my prior deductions have been about 10-20% of whatever it would have cost out of pocket.

A hit and run incident or not, this has nothing to do with what the OP is asking.

@Jon OP was asking for advice on what to do, since OP mentioned that the cost to fix would 1485 out of pocket. I provided some feedback on what OP can do to avoid the cost out of pocket.

Do you know know it was a hit and run? And OP already stated that he can’t get it repaired in time before he needs to return it.

Does the pre-inspection actually provide estimates for what the charge from IFS will be for specific damages?

Yes, that’s the whole point of the pre-inspection.

It literally gives you the actual charge from IFS for returning the car in the current state. You are paying for it with the disposition fee, so I don’t understand why you seem hesitant to get it done.

Apologies if wasn’t clear, have already scheduled the pre-inspection for this coming Monday. What (potentially) hurts me here, more than anything else, is the last minute scramble, with final/final return date being in 2 weeks. I hadn’t paid any particular attention to the front bumper until this week, didn’t know there was the damage, so hadn’t given any particular urgency to getting the preinspection since nothing’s wrong otherwise.

The OP mentions it right in first post that someone backed into him. If he can’t fix it in time, you can still get an insurance pay out and cover the out of pocket cost from IFS for damages.

Are you staying loyal? In other words, if you’re buying/leasing another Nissan/Infiniti, they will waive 500 of the damage. Likewise, the damage charges are usually relatively cheap in comparison to having a body shop do the work. So, if you’re damage is estimated at 750 by the inspection, and you’re getting into another Nissan/Infiniti product, you’d only owe 250 out of pocket.

Then have his rates go up for the next 5 years. OP would have to weigh the costs of filing a claim vs just paying the damage.

That said, AutoVIN is usually pretty lenient with their charges when working with Nissan. I’d get the inspection done first before contemplating filing a claim regardless.

Someone backing into his does not necessarily mean it’s a hit and run.

Unlikely. I’ve tried for quite some time to get a “reasonable” lease on an Infiniti, but no luck. It’s on my list this weekend to email all the dealers within 500 miles etc, but I’d done that 6m or so ago and 0 flex at all.

just had my q50 inspected. There price is way less than getting it fixed on your own.

You must be in a smaller market because it seems like lots of good Infiniti deals get posted here?

In any event, if the pre-inspection shows deductions greater than $500, then you will be paying an extra $900 to leave the brand. That’s because you would give up the disposition fee waiver $395 and the $500 wear and tear forgiveness by not re-upping on a new Infiniti lease. That may change your math on what makes the most sense for your next car. Post the inspection report when you get it on Monday and you should get better advice then.

If that is not a hit and run, than what would you consider one?
