I went to the Oxnard dealership around 11am and asked for the person that HFS said to ask for…he is out to lunch, I wait for him to come back, half an hour in they tell me he is 5 minutes away… One hour later still not here. I went to receptionist and said if anyone else can do lease return… everyone is “busy” not a single soul in showroom-I’m the only one. Finally few minutes later said person comes in, I say about lease return yada yada and he says oh that’s not me but points out to what seemed like sales ppl. then I said HFS told me to ask specifically for him and they spoke to him…he pretends that he didn’t talk to anyone last week and says let me ask manager… Comes back says no, we can’t take it, no space, only if you want to do Buy Out they can buy it.
I said thanx and walked out and called HFS right away to see what they want me to do next… rep tried calling them but no answer, and said walk inside and put phone on speaker to talk to someone from finance… Guy comes out and claims he is GM and talks to her-she said we had an appointment for today and he aggressively talks back to her that nobody made an appointment and they have no space and hands me the phone back-what a DOUCHE move, I just said “Thank you sir, you have a blessed day” hahahaha no big deal, I will prosper
Rep on phone told me she will escalate this and a manager from HFS will call me with a solution.
I told the rep on phone not to worry as it’s still a beautiful day outside with lots of sunshine and I may return at leasing dealer on Monday if I don’t get a response… I mentioned to her to just leave it parked there and leave the keys inside and let them deal with it hahaha she laughed and said she can’t tell me what to do but if I do to take a photo of keys left inside car
I called my leasing dealer and they said No Problem bring it in anytime- I just didn’t want to drive 2 hours to return it… Maybe I will ask HFS to waive the DISPO FEE for the inconvenience or they can come and pick it up from my home
Next step: Monday Oct 27th (will drive with expired tags FYI) will return at leasing dealer in Orange County, CA
I think this will be a common theme with these Ioniq 5s. No dealer wants them back. Last week, my closest Hyundai dealer said to drop it off anytime M-F between 9-5. I went today to drop it off and now they say they don’t have space and won’t take it if I didn’t get it from them. Called HMF while I was at the dealership and HMF can’t do anything. Looks like I’ll need to return it to my original dealer too.
No big deal, I’ll do mine Monday and take the train back…make it a half day ordeal,
$15 Metrolink Day Pass is a lot better than UBER will be haha (Probably $150 Uber back home)
Not to be cheap-but FRUGAL, if I don’t have to spend it I won’t haha
Sorry to hear about your experience. I just returned mine to Oxnard this afternoon with wonderful service and a pleasant chat with Rob. I think it was because I leased from them, but a week ago a salesperson told me no, not unless you are trading. This is a messy system and you would think they want to impress customers in hopes of future sales, but no, it’s a car dealer. SMH
Called ahead to the closest dealer to me. Said a manager will handle it and quickly turned to a sales pitch. Played along and will see what happens this Saturday.
I haven’t received the adapter yet…I called in July when they said they were sending one and called again last week, they mentioned 12-16 weeks it takes for the adapter to arrive. So keeping it…
Get ready for some more DRAMA for my return, today:
I took a day off today and went to OC where I leased the car, didn’t want to wait till Monday 2 hrs drive…I get there and park-start taking a video for records and a young guy tells me oh, we’re NOT taking any leases, I explained that I spoke with someone yesterday and asked if I needed to make an appointment and that he stated, “No, just bring it in” as it was leased through their dealership. We go inside and he continues to tell me we can’t ground it as they are going through a dealership change of ownership and can’t login to process the return… I asked to talk to someone in management, Manager comes out and states the same, I said then why was I told to just come in if that was the case I would’ve saved me half a day traveling and losing $$$ as I took a day off…He went back and forth to office and getting in touch with Moiz.
I said what if I just leave it there where it’s parked leave the keys and you guys deal with it hahaha at least they were nicer than Oxnard dealer or maybe because Corporate was mentioned who knows
THE SAVIOR: I texted right away with Moiz @CoastalMotorGroup to see if he had a connection here as he was my broker, and he mentioned to call Corporate as they had no choice but to take it… He didn’t have to but he was very very attentive and even offered me to take the car at a nearby dealership, as he was getting the 100% approval from the other dealership-Manager comes out and says he will take it and backtrack the grounding as much as he can and e-mail me the paperwork at a later time, I left it there and went home.
Now I am getting messages on my phone that a CAR DOOR is open, tried locking remotely but couldn’t, called the dealership and asked someone to close the doors/lock the car…he said ok will do, one hour later still getting same messages
As in The day I returned the lease, if their system is still out next week they would “supposedly” put todays date for my return… My DMV tags expire tomorrow
Yes, correct 11/22/25 is my lease end paid in full with the One Pay. I don’t think it matters, just a formality to present to DMV that grounding and NRL was before expiration of plates… thought about filing PNO $27 just to be safe but don’t think I will anyway
Yeah, this is the problem with ‘off’ 12 month interval leases (13 month, 39 month, etc.) in states like CA with reg due and no credits. Raises monthly effective cost of leases if not driving and turning in or only using 3 of 12 months on reg.
Yep-I was aware and plan was to return before 12th month ends, but local dealers wouldn’t take mine and even my leasing dealer almost didn’t haha I did it because it was soooo cheap my WIFI is more expensive per month than this lease was lol
I’m gonna try and use EA charging deal from this car on my Tesla and see how it goes hopefully VIN is not recognized etc
