Employee pricing/ a plan

Brand new to leasing, Hard to find info on what exactly employee pricing is and what it does. Does it lower the price off the car after invoice, or is it a replacement for invoice price? If employee pricing is used can it be used in conjunction with other incentives. And what’s a good source to find how much it’ll get me off? I’ve called a few dealerships the first one was helpful but it was before I found the forum, so I knew basically nothing. the ones I’ve called since becomIng more informed on leasing have probably caught on that I don’t know much, so they use very vague wording when giving any info.
Mostly only communicate with these dealers to try and find info for the calculator. Rv and mf I’ve been getting by utilizing edmunds forums.

Also Feel like a noob asking this question but since I am one I’m gonna ask. When leasing and finding incentives, how do I know I can apply them to a lease rather than retail purchase. I understand retail means basically only applicable if you’re buying the car, but what do the other terms mean, basically which ones apply when pricing out a lease?

Thank you to everyone in the community, I’ve learned a lot, and I still have a lot to learn. Sorry if this is just reads like a wall of text, but I just wanna try to be clear so people in the forum know my current situation. Thank you in advance for the responses!

Depends on the brand.

Some companies have a set figure on the invoice, some allocate an amount to be used and can be tacked onto the discount.

Some do a combo of both.

What info are you looking for?

Mostly looking for the pre incentive sale
Price, Keeping my options open for car as well as brand, helps because I can shop around, but sucks because I have to get all that info

I am able to get employee pricing through fca, Ford, and gm.

Ford A-Plan is Invoice - Holdback - Advertising Fee + $275 program fee. I found it falls around 2-2.7% off MSRP. I think anyone can negotiate that and probably should shoot for A-Plan (x2) before incentives, especially if next model year is significantly changed and/or lots of inventory.

Volvo’s a-plan pricing is a fixed price, and while you can also add available incentives, it’s generally not worth it at 6% off, unless there’s a mega-special with the a-plan bonus.

so It’s basically just kind of a cash bonus in a way?

Ford has a amazing special going on at the moment, a plan pricing is one of the incentives needed for the list price of 149 monthly, 1500 down on an 2019 f-150 xlt 4x4. Sadly need to be a returning f lease customer. That’s what interested me in looking into what a plan gets me, guess it’s just how everybody’s saying, it’s nice but it’s not the end all be all.

Thanks for the info!

Were did you see the details of this special? I have a F-150 going back in the next month or two, and would love to find something cheap until they release the '21 redesign.

No, it’s a set price, and sometimes there’s an “a-plan bonus,” maybe $1,000 or $1,500, plus available incentives. The point is that most times you can negotiate a better price than 6% plus the bonus, before incentives.

A lot of the local dealers in the metro Detroit area are offering it on their dealer websites, I believe bill brown is one of the dealerships I saw that advertised it but there’s more that are offering similar deals.

Hope that helps!

Until about 2 years ago, you could stack the a-plan bonus cash on top of a negotiated deal, but Volvo ended that in May or June of 18. If you look back on here to that time frame, you’ll see a lot of super cheap S90 leases that took advantage of this stacking.
