2kw at 99% and still charging. That’s crazy. Saw a c40 at 80%+, owner nowhere to be seen, charging at 30kw.

Unfortunate that we’re stuck with fragile tech that leads to charger break downs + a pricing model that enables people to get away with $h*tty behavior.

They need to make it $1/min after 85%.

No, they don’t.

But if they do it should be limited to cars that draw under 30KW at that %.

I go all the way to close to 100% when we use our eqb for nyc trip. Fortunately my eqb is still pulling 40-48kw at 80%+, thus 80-100 is another 15-20 minutes.

Shouldn’t it also depend on congestion?

Indeed. Thought about it but stuck around thinking she’d give up once her 30 mins were over. Endured another 10 mins before the machine errored out to put me out of my misery

Every alternative solution has drawbacks but I like the idea of a time-based penalty when you’ve gone beyond your 30mins or are drawing <6kw or whatever a slow charger alternative down the street offers

BMW providing internal guidance that elimination of EA free charging was the result of EA changing BMW’s pricing. With EA owned by VW, not a shocker.

Recent session.

There was one other charger that was too far away to see the screen, but the Polestar sitting immediately next to me had been sitting there for over 45 minutes and was in the low 90s at this point.

This is roughly when a couple of people pulled up and began waiting, but of those plugged in I was the last to have arrived, so I stuck it out until I hit 100% (< 10 minutes after the first “waiter” pulled up).

This isn’t any more unreasonable than expecting someone to wait for my session to go from, say, 70% to 80%, if I’d gotten there a bit later.

It’s the same < 10 minutes.

Interesting. I foresee this as a start of a trend with automakers backing out of the xx years free charging. Once one does it, the others follow.

I always wondered what it cost them to offer the unlimited (or xx min free) charging to customers.

They should offer cash incentive as an alternative for free charging. I take $500 cash incentive to forgo 2 years free charging eventhough my ea is only 10 mins away.

It’s not the same amount of time, no matter how you spin it.

I’ve only used EA a handful of times. Never had to wait and the chargers were available and working,

I also don’t live in L.A. where all the issues seem to occur. :grinning:

Yeah, unless I really need that 100%, I will not go over my free 30 minutes.

Do you have more than 30 minutes free charging sessions? If not, I would assume it would still be more cost effective to pack your ipad/laptop and drive home at 90% battery and charge the remaining 10% at home.

30 minute with 1hr intervals isn’t enforced if you unplug and plug back in as of this time.

There honestly isn’t a good way to implement it until they can work out the charging equipment that is derated or in disrepair and faults out often.

No, the EA benefit that came with my car (Audi) is unlimited charging for three years.

No session time caps.
