Got to 188! I think that’s all it’ll do. ![]()
Two people waiting at 5:12 a.m.
I wasn’t the only one who assumed that the rain would keep people home.
Do you guys not have home charging, or just trying to use free charging?
It doesn’t seem to be worth the hassle of getting up/waiting around at odd hours.
$0.56 is the going rate in Colorado, my question is who is actually paying that, I feel like 90% of the users are getting free charging. I pay about $0.16 at home and nothing at work, so once that free charging goes away I won’t bother unless driving long distance, which isn’t very often.
I do 5-10% of my charging at home.
I try to use the benefit that came with the car, within limits (for example, I won’t wait for an EA charger to open up).
I keep weird hours compared to most people, so I’m up anyway.
Yeah, definitely trying to use the free EA charging within reason. One of their stations near me is in the parking lot of a grocery store, so it’s worth it to drive over there to do some shopping once a week and more or less fill up.
Just take away the free EA charging and I’m pretty sure most issues would be resolved. It’s insane how many people just charge at the stations and waste people’s time, especially by charging till 100%. ID4s are horrible since they have 3 years free charging and charge tremendously slow. At least, VW has taken care of that.
It won’t fix the general state of disrepair or the fact that there are too few dispensers for the anticipated demand especially in densely populated areas.
Choosing Walmart/Sams for co-location at a good majority of installations was probably a bit of a fail too. I’ve seen cars racking up idle fees on PAID charging sessions because the driver decided to do the week’s shopping while charging – It happens at Tesla Superchargers that are co-located with Hyvee or other grocery chains as well.
More proof that Convenience Store/Travel Centers really are the perfect place to build out DCFC because the last thing you want to do there is hang out.
Ok, now we’re talking. Preconditioned, and the thing just took off. Could have moved on after 15min (I believe I was at about 80% at that point), but I was the only one there and did a bit of grocery shopping.
I have it at home but I want it free since I barely ever have line at my EA SC.
Where I’m at, Bolts and Kia are always paying. If I’m not mistaken, I’ve seen Rivian pay, but that may be over my allotted free time.
You are missed the issue by a mile. It’s not about free charging is the issue. it’s the the 100% charging goal. 80%+ charge should be premium time and charge. That one is a waste of time. My ID.4 gets to 80% in 30 min and I’m gone. Bold is there for 1,5 hours but paid peanuts because of being charged only for kw. In that time 3 ID.4 could have gone to 80%. Most of the time, problems at EAs with lines I’ve seen are because charges have been Bolt’ed.
I find the Bolt thing mind blowing, the only one’s around me doing it are the rentals that are Ubers, and I believe they get a discount. I doubt they can charge at home. $0.56/kw is just crazy to me, when it’s $0.16/kw at home. And charging to 100% is totally unnecessary unless you’re on a road trip and need to make it a certain distance.
Never underestimate the American consumer’s desire to have whatever they want, now, at all costs.
Just look at any car sales story thread in any forum ever
THIS! It’s the stupidest thing to try unless your next charger is far beyond 80% range. Time spent getting from 80% to 100% is better spent at the next charger going from 10% to 80%. Both could easily be 30 min charge, while on my car, 80% to 100% is 70 miles tops, and 10% to 80% is about 180 miles. Much more efficient time spent charging. UGH!!!
The problem is people won’t change unless they are hit with either $ like triple the price for anything above 80% or ban it entirely. But then those who need to travel will suffer as unintended consequences.
What is the car ioniq?
Yup, ioniq 6
I picked up my eqs suv in Ohio and drove back to Michigan. Didnt have any clue on charging etc. Tried the one on turnpike only ~40kw speed at 350kw station. I think the charger had some issue.
Now i can get 140kw with 50% soc. I didnt get to try with lower SoC yet. Will try longer distance this weekend. Hope everything goes smooth.
So far every station I stopped, recognized my car. Pretty cool. I Just plug in and it charges.
Yep. Start charging by the minute after 80%. Change the terms of the 30 minutes free to “up to” 30 minutes free but at 80% you also get a per minute waste fee…
What does it mean when an established station turns to ‘Coming Soon’ for a while? Haven’t been there recently but I’ve been told it’s closed.
Prob waiting on parts.
Call it “The Bolt Act”
