Electrify America - Experiences and Discussion

And this strawman is equally preposterous.

This has class action written all over it.

EA is an exercise in frustration, especially if you frequent the DC-NYC corridor. Stations are always full and they’re at horrible locations. Who wants to detour off 95 to East Brunswick. Tesla has chargers at every rest area on that stretch.

What do the Promotion Ts & Cs, which you must accept before using the free charging offer, say?

Does EA have Tesla chargers?

Found out today the hard way that EVGo does.

They sell ccs1 to nacs adapters so a Tesla could charge at EA.

I have no problem waiting for a charging spot but they don’t really have a structure for queuing. People just randomly park nearby.

You’d think they would assign a holding parking spot that’s numbered per station. Idk.

At some point there’s gonna be a fight because of this. And since it’s the good ol’ USA it’ll involve guns.

holy F those prices

4 minutes 2.5 KWH

Yeah that’s why I use the Appalachian corridor (I-81) when I head up that way. No I-95 shenanigans for me unless absolutely necessary!

Not buying it, your average BEV driver isn’t a gang banger or backwoods yeehaw prone to let their temper boil over over petty BS.

Seriously though we’ve been driving electrics for years and save for your occasional entitled twat most are the friendliest folk you’ll ever meet. Many (myself included) will even take time to guide you if you’re having trouble with charging equipment.

I like your view on us EV drivers. Until EV pickup trucks become popular (Silverado and Ram).

We all know Ram dealers require a minimum of a few felonies to qualify for purchase.

Haha,

Look at all these ā€œhackrsā€ whining about waiting to charge for FREE :joy: guess HYDROGEN is the REAL FUTURE and hence it’s still FREE for us-so, no complaints here whatsoever :upside_down_face:

I’ve never had to use EA before, as I still have my credit with EvGo from 2020 incentive so been using that only on Vegas trips at 350KW stations with a CCS adapter from Tesla (this station doesn’t have a Tesla cable yet)
I wouldn’t mind charging at EA if EA was Free to charge, there’s a station a few miles from my home, I mean after all we are ā€œHACKRSā€ and anything of benefit to us, is great for our EGO’s :+1:

Manufacturers signed a deal with EA and EA simply cannot deliver. It’s been well established the money should have been placed in the infrastructure to support BEV vehicles rather than throwing it onto the consumer directly via federal rebates. Until more manufacturers begin to limit the charging sessions people will keep taking advantage and charging till full SOC. MB has already sent out emails starting from Nov.1 free charging sessions will decrease back to 30-minute complimentary sessions, however, the problem isn’t the amount of MB vehicles at these chargers but rather the amount of new BEVs with free sessions.

My problem hasn’t been with EA as such but with the people charging. I understand ques and stuff but, if you are at 98%, and it will take another 10 mins to goto 100%, just move!
Lots of easy things EA can do today:

  1. Hard limit to 30 min sessions. Charge $10 a min after that or something ridiculous
  2. Have a way to que
  3. Prevent people from charging >90% when there is a que, or charge that extra for that power

I’ve had to ask 3 times for Lucid owners to move their cars when they are sitting around 98-99% ( I don’t know why this is always been Lucid owners).

When VW/Audi lost the 1.8T sludge class action it’s not like literally every engine failed nor did the OEM promise 99.9% uptime. If it can be summed up in one line, it’s ā€œA lot of those engines failed.ā€ That’s all it took to win the case.

IANAA but from what I’ve read on newsworthy cases over the years the T&C isn’t always the deciding factor. Some company could bury the legal jargon equivalent of saying ā€œour product is garbage and doesn’t actually workā€ in their T&C but that would not necessarily be a defense.

Often it comes down to ā€œwhat could a reasonable person be expected to understand/assumeā€ about the product.

EA could just do a better buildout and fix their stations timely and not impose ridiculous and frankly impossible to enforce actions.

  1. It goes to per kWh after 30 minutes
  2. Not possible, even Tesla can’t figure this one out.
  3. You don’t know other drivers personal situation like if they have to close a long gap with no or unreliable chargers and neither does EA. Ridiculous and Irresponsible.

Its cheaper to pay for regular gas than pay EVGO in CA…

2 days ago, I was very low on charge, so I charged at EVGO as a alternative. It was chilly. To drive 30 miles, I charged 13kwh, which cost me $8.
If I had a regular gas SUV, those 30miles would have been about 1.2 gal or $6.

Explain please?

LOL what’s the rate?
Here’s my bill from the morning

Probably right. I charged at EVgo and ChargePoint a few times when I needed to, but never paid attention to how much it costs because I charge mostly at home. But I’ve read that public charging can cost more than small gas cars
