Electrify America - Experiences and Discussion

Look 8-10 years ago you had a Model S, Nissan Leaf and a BMW i3. You charged the Tesla at a supercharger, Leaf at the dealership because that’s where it spent most of it’s life and the bimmer at EVgo because that’s what the partnership was. There was no charts for charge curves, with the 2014 i3 I leased it was 30min to charge at summer time and 45min to charge in winter at a 50kW station with speeds under 40kW. No screens to show charge speed no true apps to show what the stall delivered and what the car was willing to draw. Today we have luxury to pull up to a stall and pick and choose. You don’t need to read up manuals because with a simple YT search you can pull up vlogs on how to charge almost any vehicle available on the market in America.

Pardon my french, but who the F wants to do a YT search and listen to vlogs to fill up a car?!? And then just to show up to a station to find out it doesn’t work, or supplies maybe 1/ 5th of the power you need, or the car not connect, or the app not to work, I’m not going to retype the entire thread in here. For a Tesla it’s obviously different, but wait until the SCs are overrun by other brands, we’ll see how long it will stay stable.

If I pull up to a EA charger and I have 3/4 stalls and I just saw another ev finish up I’ll grab that charger. Why? Because I took the 3-5 minutes of my life to learn about optimal charging for my Audi. Especially on cold days where it helps alot.

Another thing about “broken” chargers, I pulled up to my regular charging spot and 2/3 chargers were taken and one had a black screen. It looked inactive and I almost bounced, but I took the time to plug in and use the EA app to start the charge and it worked. So maybe if you took the time to do some research just as you do research to purchase the car, you’ll help yourself down the road.

First got to my usual EA and was 4th in line.
6 out of 8 were working. Couple of Bolts hogging lines trying to get to 100%. Always painfull to watch the 100% strugglers.

Waited about 25 min but had time.

Had 15% charge and was 35F outside. Can’t say battery was warm enough but I noticed when I started charge of was 135kwh while when it got to 40% it was down to 70kwh.
Looked as if car was calculating and changing charge speed to get to 80% in 30 min time rather then always keep at max income charge rate.

Interesting. Need to test more coming with below 20% charge and see what happens.

Btw those Bolts… one was hogging 350kwh where prior to him was Genesis getting 135kwh for 30 min getting about 65% of its charge progress bar.

I have EQS450+. I charged at EA 3 times yesterday. Does anyone know why I am getting charged?

Is this a serious question?

Yes, it is in fact. I thought I had at least 30 minute free charging.

Mercedes bug with EA, I can’t remember much about it.

I guess because you’re a dealer I would think you know how to set up the free EA program with your vehicle.

From what I read, MBZ owners can use their app or the EA app and get the free sessions.

I understand that. I tried both. MMC (Mercedes Me Connect) says charging isn’t available through them, I used EA app, but it started charging me. That’s why I was asking.

Did you wait 2 hours between sessions?

It gets that busy at that Stamford EA? I charged there few time and had all the stalls to myself in the afternoon. One of those stalls locked up and did not want to release. Screen was frozen, car release button did not help. Fought it for good 10min. Almost had to do the manual release from the frunk.

First time I’ve seen that. Most of the time, I had a similar experience to yours, including a charger lock and having to fight it.

No, Didn’t. Why?

You’re only entitled to a free session every 2 hours

I know. And I got charged in Denton, TX and Okahoma City. I am pretty sure they are 3 hours apart from each other.

Because… you said you didn’t wait 2 hours between sessions, there’s a bug charging ppl so idk
