Fellow hackers - Dealer charging ~500 for doc fee. Is that normal in lease transactions? I’m guessing NOT, but wanted to get inputs.
It depends by dealer. Some states have regulations where they have to charge everyone the same doc fee. No discrimination allowed. So can’t do $500 for you, $100 for someone else etc.
Thanks @mbchris. This is in NorCal.
California doc fee is limited to $80.
Thanks @hurijo. While we’re at it, do you happen to know of the bank fees? Dealer is quoting ~700. Is that one standardized too?
In California, doc fees are capped at $80. The bank fee is charged by the leasing company – depending on the brand, it may be marked up by the dealer for additional profit. With BMW FS, it’s always $925, whereas with MBFS, it’s $795 but some dealers mark it up to $1,095. If a dealer won’t budge on fees, you can try asking them to offset the fees by lowering the selling price.
Leasehackr Calculator has the base acquisition fee for each brand.
this is the case in Florida. Everybody has to be charge the same. Dealers often reduce MSRP further to compensate for last minute negotiations.
Just FYI, Lexus acq fee changed from $700 to $795.
Thanks a lot, hackers. This helped to talk to the dealer.
