Does dealer lose money when I use rebate that GM have? Why are they acting like it is coming directly from their pocket? I’m assuming they just make less money, right?
No I asked two separate dealers about this. They both confirmed it doesn’t matter. Thats why its best to not reveal you have a GM Supplier discount or are willing to open a GM credit card until the end to try and maximize dealer discount.
They want you to think the rebate is the discount so they don’t have to provide any dealer discount. But they are fully reimbursed for the rebates, assuming the rebates were properly applied and documented.
You’re being appraised by the dealer as uninformed.
(Not a judgment, most people are uninformed. Thankfully you’re here asking!)
As such, you’re getting the predictable response
I was always confused by the GM supplier code language. Is it basically just fleet? With BMW or MB I can usually reference discounts by model but GM is weird with how they frame it as msrp…
Don’t worry about GM supplier for the selling price, you can negotiate a better price. What GM supplier is useful for is extra lease cash. The vehicle doesn’t have to sell at the “supplier price” for the lease cash to apply.
Fleet is normally akin to conquest (ie if you have a competitor’s car, we’ll incentivize you X to come over).
GM supplier is if you work for an affiliated company, you can get X off.
At least that’s how I interpret it. I was able to stack conquest + gm supplier for my lyriq.
But is it like the old Volvo A plan then? A basic guaranteed discount? I guess if the dealer is giving X% discount, plus rebates…does the supplier code then stack? Or it would just be useful if it gives more discount than what the dealer may offer?
You can stack fleet with BMW but not all rebates can be added. Supplier seems like a minimum guaranteed discount that replaces dealer discount but I guess that’s wrong?
No. As @themachine said you can negotiate a larger discount than the plan and still apply the rebate to your lease.
No real need to think of it as anything other than a stackable rebate.
Hmm ok, their site makes it confusing. So taking the example below, the supplier price reflects a $5k’ish discount. You’re saying I can negotiate more discount from the dealer and then stack this $5k?
That was my understanding based on signed and advertised deals on LH. I haven’t seen a deal for that particular model so I can’t comment. It may be an exception
Those are the supplier prices. There is no additional supplier lease cash on those models. Supplier lease cash is mostly (all?) on EVs right now. So yes, you can try to negotiate a lower price than those supplier prices, but there’s not going to be any additional rebates on a lease.
