Also curious… Porsche near the top and VW and Audi sucking hind titty.**

This is more of ‘Did you like the really powerful car you bought’ versus any kind of true satisfaction survey.

Wonder why MB is so low, and Wow , Polestar beat Tesla on dissatisfaction.

Couldn’t these figures be drastically skewed based on the simple difference of sales volume alone?

Having the GM & Stellantis names near the top of the list blows my mind. Nearly every brand new GM vehicle that I can think of (whether it was a friends vehicle, relatives, etc.) has had some sort of issue. They throw a plan together, blast it down the lines, and put it on the lots. R&D comes after the fact.

You mean to tell me that Porsche and Audi aren’t the same??

The measure is problems per 100 vehicles, not the raw number of problems per brand.

And these are all mainstream brands with large sample sizes (although obviously to varying degrees).

Somewhat unrelated, I haven’t seen an IQS survey in a long time so this may be outdated, but they used to count ridiculous things as an initial quality “problem,” like someone not liking the tactile sensation of a particular button or control.

Think these are largely worthless

More evidence this particular survey is useless. Always has been

Can’t tell anything about vehicle quality from small sample sizes over such small timeframes

93k total sampled. How many of those are Alfa ? Well 5 people liked their cars so I guess they’re good

Right, but in theory two brands that have a similar number of issues (per 100 vehicles)… the higher volume brand has a better chance of looking like the shining star, because there are more “good” vehicles produced. The lower volume brand really has to have its act together.

Then there is the fact that I wouldn’t vote for the majority of the first half of the list in terms of overall quality. I mean c’mon…Dodge, Chevy, GMC, Maserati…

Interesting discussion nonetheless.

I wouldn’t say that, I would say the higher volume brand has less volatility in its results, which make it less likely to appear falsely high or low.

It’s not inherently good or bad , it is just more volatile because it’s more likely an outlier occurs from the actual mean when you have a relatively small sample size. So if all 5 people they surveyed enjoy their Alfa it can make Alfa look really good compared to the 10000 with civics or rav4s. Or those same 5 people could hate them and it would be exaggerated that way.

The survey is very clearly intended to measure “initial quality.”

It isn’t advertised as a way to measure reliability or satisfaction over the long-term.

Those would be entirely different surveys.

And most people find survey conclusions preposterous when they don’t align with their long-term, closely-held beliefs and biases.

Until he passed away a year ago at almost 101 years old, my grandfather was still saying, “Dodge makes good cars.” He hadn’t had one in probably 30 years.

@thevolvoguy see not everyone gives bad surveys

I don’t see Vinfast there, which makes me think these are pre June 2023…hence before the Repocalypse.

So all the ‘satisfied’ customers are people who got Rams and Challengers who couldn’t afford it, so of course they are ‘satisfied’

Which includes everything from is your car in working order to is the cup holder in the right place. A brand can score really well in this survey since they have easy-to-pair Bluetooth with no other tech but the engine will blow up after 2 years. I suspect brands that will heavily push EV with new tech will get punished here versus brands that are sticking to ICE since for many owners it will be their first EV (and the new problems that come with owning an EV).

Have you ever filled one of these out?

They take like an hour, ask the most ridiculous things (what brand TV do you watch as you doze off to dream (pre-purchase) about your Alfa Romeo? Do you own a wheelbarrow that will be near your Pacifica Minivan? If so, how many?) and most people stop after about 10 minutes.

Not even the “Chance at $100,000” drawing gets those done or even close to an accurate measure.

With this point you’re missing what an “initial quality” survey would measure.

Local election poll results also don’t tell you anything about which Pocky flavors are most popular in Alberta.

But how is this info useful, I would far prefer to know a 2-3 yr or even 5 year quality measure than how everyone’s honeymoon period goes.

In terms of what people would dislike about their car within the first few months it would basically the infotainment being intuitive or not , how the driver assist stuff works and if their wireless charger works.

I don’t think anyone would suggest that someone should make a purchase decision after only consulting this survey.

It’s just a data point.

It’s not even one I value.

But still.

It’s just one potential input into a decision.
