Finally test drove a Challenger Scat Pack with manual transmission, it was a used 2019 with about 12k miles. In comparison to my manual LT1, the clutch felt much shorter, almost like it was modified or replaced with a different spring. It’s tough to find manuals out there, so I was curios if anyone else can comment if this is normal.
Also, the Tremec in the Challenger felt clunky compared to the Camaro, actually worse than the Getrag in the Mustang.
Overall, it was fun car to drive, very impressive for a car that big to be fast and handle well. I will admit, the engine and exhaust on the Scat sounds better than the NPP in the Camaro. Could be a possible replacement if I swap out the LT1.
I had my Challenger Scat Pack out of the garage today for the first time in weeks. Always puts a smile on my face, plus you can actually put a person in the back seat.
I’ve got the 8spd auto and love it. I did have a '18 RT with a manual, not looking back after making the switch. You may want to look into leftover 2020’s – because you can still get up to $6500 in rebates. Check out Koons in VA, who still has a massive stock of them. I’m paying $330/mo for my 2020, but I’m using a PenFed balloon loan.
Of course I did, had to do a true comparison test Also, the LT1 is my only car (wife doesn’t like getting stuck with it).
The first dealer I called wanted me to submit a credit application just to test drive. These guys just threw me the keys after copying license/insurance.
Ha, glad you chimed in. I’m researching the Scats based on your balloon loan, just waiting to get approved for Penfed account right now so I can see 2020 residual values. Used market is crazy, I can get brand new 2020 Scat Pack low options cheaper than used. All I want is manual and driver convenience package (HIDs).
Chrysler Capital 24 month residual for 2021s is 70% on 24 months, and 64% for 2020 models. Not sure how PenFed calculates that for their balloon loans.
2020
60% @ 36mo
66.5% @ 24mo
2.99% APR for 24 or 36
The difference w/ Penfed is you can apply the retail incentives ($4850+posibly more) which are significantly greater versus lease (only $500 conquest). But then the downside of the balloon loan is you are paying tax on the full purchase price.
If you can get it to $35K before TTL you would be looking around $330/mo with either payment.
Man this is why I love this community! Thanks so much this really helps. I think I can definitely get this low with FCA employee discounts plus the $4850 retail cash, and other discounts.
Reviving this thread because I placed a factory order for a 2021 Scat Pack manual with Driver Convenience package. Stellantis has raised base MSRP of the Challengers twice this year, and they also increased destination to $1595! This is getting ridiculous.
Vehicle already has a VIN assigned and estimate build date, with delivery date of 10/19. That seems very optimistic, but I will be happy to get it by end of October.
MSRP is $45,665 and my deal with employee pricing and current rebates is $42,900 otd including 6% tax. I’m debating to use balloon loan from PenFed, or a local credit union that uses AFG’s balloon loan, which offers up to 72 mos and a much lower payment.
Market is so crazy that the I am getting a brand new one cheaper than used 2019s with 20k miles. I’ll structure my deal to have payments around $350/mo, then prob flip in the spring and sell for msrp or higher. Should be a fun ride.
Early welcome to the Challenger Scat/Camaro LT1 club. Few of us have now flipped through both… In my case, I did better on the Challenger then the Camaro, but both had positive equity.
That said, after a few days w/ a Model 3 LRAWD (also on a Penfed balloon) I’m hooked.
Thanks man, I owe (blame) it to you. The Challenger was an easier sell to the wife, since all 3 kids fit with room to spare in the back seat. Can’t believe how much bigger it is than the Camaro. Drives like it, but I actually prefer the Scat Pack engine and exhaust sound to the NPP.
Definitely gets the testosterone pumping. Everything in the Challenger is beefier than the Camaro; brute force to depress the clutch, the manual shifter is like swinging an axe, and can’t see past the hood. Love it though.
$1500 purchase rebate for everyone, and $500 conquest for competitor lease. Now, these are subject to change next month when I take delivery, and FCA can only protect for the $1500.
The rest of the discount is Employee Pricing. I got the dealer to throw in window tinting, since there was nothing else to negotiate. Told them I needed an incentive to order from them versus the 20 other CDJR dealers in the metro Detroit area, all which honor employee pricing and all rebates.
It does look like Penfed is offering a $1000 TDM rebate for 2021 Challenger (including SRT, excluding Hellcat). You want to take a look at the form you can download here; PenFed - Car Buying Service - PenFed
There is also $1000 for CDJR loyalty, vs $500 for conquest. Do you have a 4xe somewhere briefly?
Can’t believe I missed this one. This helps big time.
No 4xE for me, but I did broker a deal for my cousin in San Diego few months ago. Not that it will do me any good. No other CDJR vehicles in the family.
